Myths About Hair Loss

Nate D.
Let's face it; everyone is concerned about their hair. When people get old, they tend to lose their hair, but nobody wants to lose it at a young age. Whether male or female, each person has some concern about it. More than half of all men and around 40% of women will experience hair loss problems sometime during their life.

There are many things that can contribute to hair loss, including it being hereditary. Here are some common myths about hair care and loss.

One common belief about hair is that cutting it more often makes it grow faster. This is not true. Cutting it more often does not make it come back faster or make it grow back thicker.

Another myth is that blow drying can lead to losing hair. This is also not true. Though it can make you lose a little bit of hair due to burning and drying, it will not be permanent and it will grow back.

One more myth is that brushing your hair more often makes it grow better. This is not true at all. This can actually cause you to lose more hair as brushes can damage your hair.

Some people also think that washing hair to frequently will lead to a person losing hair permanently. This is not true. Washing your hair too much will not result in losing it.

Another common misconception is that changing the color of hair will result in permanent hair loss. People fear dying their hair too much because they don't want to eventually lose it. This is not true. Hair can be lost if the products are not used correctly but it will grow back. Any lost hair will not be permanent.

Some also believe that excessive exposure to sun will lead to hair loss later on. This is not true either as protecting your scalp from the sun is the purpose of hair. In order to do damage to your hair, the sun would have to get all the way to the base of it, which can not happen.

A myth about hair loss that is true is that stress can cause the loss of hair. Overly stressful situations can actually affect your body so much that the body shuts down its hair making operations. This loss of hair is not always permanent, though it can be.

These are just a few of the many myths that exist about hair loss. It is clear by just these that it takes quite a bit to lose hair permanently. Of course, most people are going to lose it with old age. There are things that can be done about this but it is really inevitable. Hair is something that everyone cares about so make sure you learn the facts before you make any decisions about it.
