Myths About Hypnosis

Buck Pettry
As a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, I am always seeking more information regarding hypnosis in general. I search the Internet on a regular basis for new theories, induction methods, and deepening methods that I can employ in my practice.

As I search the Internet for this information, I am seeing an increased amount of sites that offer methods of using hypnosis for seduction or for mind control. These sites anger me greatly, for they not only provide information that is incorrect and untrue, but they hurt the creditability of the valid use of hypnosis.

The use of hypnosis for seducing some unsuspecting member of the opposite sex is a total fabrication and a falsehood. It does not, and cannot occur. It is a myth that is being used by these Internet con men to sell you their product. A product that is being sold to far too many people that are eager to put this "secret knowledge" to the test and seduce some unsuspecting girl into a sexual encounter.

Let me dispel some common "myths" regarding hypnosis and the use of hypnosis.

Myth: The Hypnotist can make you do things against your will.

Absolutely False! The Hypnotist has no power over you at all and you will not do anything that you would not do under normal circumstances. Nothing that would be against your will can be done to you at anytime while under Hypnosis.

All hypnosis is actually "self hypnosis". A Hypnotist is not a Master of you and has no power over you. The Hypnotist is a guide in the process.

Myth: You can get stuck in hypnosis and never come out.

Again, absolutely false. If you were hypnotized and the Hypnotist left the room, never to return, your own mind would pull you out of the hypnotic state safely in one of two ways. The first being, you would simply drift off into a normal sleep state for a period of time, and then wake up as you normally would, feeling fine. The second would be you would realize the Hypnotist was no longer speaking to you and you would open your eyes and be wide awake, and again, feeling fine.

Myth: I will give up personal secrets.

Again, False. Many people believe this myth because of T.V and movies depicting people under hypnosis answering any question asked of them and being incapable of doing anything but tell the absolute truth.

The real truth is that nobody under hypnosis will revel any secret or other information unless they want to.

Myth: If I am hypnotized, I can be controlled.

False Again. Just as with the other myths, unless you desire to have control of your actions forced upon you, you will not be controlled.

Hypnosis is a safe and highly effective means of aiding in the modification of personal change. But to facilitate the change, many factors must be considered, and the person desiring the changes must be willing to make these changes. It is not a means of mind control, seduction, or gaining dominance and control of an unsuspecting person.

Web Sites that try to sell this information seriously undermine the public perception of hypnosis, and only serve to separate the victim from their money. But, I suppose someone seeking information to use for such things probably deserves to be separated from some of their money...............now that's something to think about.
