MyTouch 3g

The Worst of the Worst

Ashby Koss
T-Mobile boasts the MyTouch 3G as their flagship line of smart phones for the Android phones. I am disappointed and offended at their selection of phones. The users of T-Mobile are paying for the service and will pay for better phones yet the Android phone that is offered by T-Mobile as their "best Android" is the worst of the offerings on the market when compared to the market on a whole.

The lag alone will drag the MyTouch 3g to such a crawl that the better Android phones and the ever popular iphone make it seem like a 5 year old smart phone. T-Mobile has given the worst possible selection of phone to their users, with this once you realize the low performance of their top line Android phone it will leave you bitter and simply waiting to run to another company.

The problems start with the screen. Low resolution and a smaller size than comfortable means that not only are all the images a little grainy but the on screen keyboard is hard to use even in the best of circumstances (ie. Sideways). The problems quickly add up, when we move to the actual software, apps, and home screen. Every time the home screen in returned to there is at least a 1 minute lag to reload your apps, which even when turned down to about 10 apps will lag the system. Then there is the keyboard, which as mentioned earlier, which is simply laggy and horrible. Half the time when I open Google to do a quick search I cannot even get the keyboard to pop up for about 30 seconds, and that applies to all apps. The next issue is with the camera, which is low resolution at 3 Megapixels, It cannot seem to handle any type of lighting situation. With no autofocus, and with the ability to tell light levels and types as well as Ray Charles, you'll never get a decent photo out of this phone. That is not even taking into account the 20 seconds it will take for the camera to actually take the photo. Add these lagging issues up and the overall experience of the MyTouch 3g is less than impressive and as mentioned insulting when compared to the current Android Market.

In the end if you have a cell plan and Android phone through T-Mobile chances are you are already looking to bail ship and move to Verizon or AT&T. If you are thinking about making the switch to T-Mobile from some other service provider. For the love of god stay away from T-Mobile unless they change their phone line up drastically. Without some changes I am beginning to wonder the survivability of T-Mobile in the American Market.
