Nail Polish and Hand Guns

Every Girl Should Fire a Gun Once

Julian Alexa
How many times have you seen in movies a woman who has been handed a gun and they bumble around, not knowing what they are doing, and accidently set the gun off? Not only does it show that we do not know what we are doing but we're stupid about it. Well movie or not, walk up to any girl and ask them: Have you ever fired a gun? You'll get disgusted faces, girls screeching they hate them and just a flat out "no" from most. I can guarantee you that it will be far and few between who actually answer yes. Guns are powerful devices that we are made to fear. They are used for hunting, war and their general purpose is abused by many. Despite the fears and hate driven into our heads about guns, I believe that every girl should fire a gun at least once in her life. To be afraid of something is to be afraid of the unknown and what you do not understand. Understanding and facing what you fear is an essential tool in over coming any fear. But it's not just about overcoming a fear. Firing a gun helps you focus and to stay calm and can be an exhilarating for some.

First, say hello the gun sitting in front of you. It's not that scary just sitting there, is it? I think the first thing women need to realize that it is not the gun that is scary; it's the person who can be holding it. You use knives in every day life but are you scared of them? Only if there is a crazy person thrusting it at you. It the same things with guns. Unless there is one someone who is a loose cannon holding the gun, don't be afraid.

Familiarizing yourself with the parts of the gun and how they operate is key. Learn how to place the safety on and off of the gun; as well as, load and unload the clip. (Remember to always keep the gun pointed downward!) Learn how to place a trigger lock (which is as simple as it sounds.) If you, the girlie girl with the pink nails and the blonde hair, know how to control the simple mechanisms of a gun without even looking directly at it then how can you be scared?

Next, take a look down at your little target at the end of the alley way there in the gun range and wave to the poor unsuspecting target. He's probably thinking you won't be able to hit him from so far away, the blonde girl holding a gun. Don't break a nail! Watch out for that recoil! With everything so hectic in life, taking the moment to aim, breathe and fire the gun actually can help you - anyone - learn how to keep focus on anything in life. If you can focus on something so small, hitting something so large, exactly where you want it to then you will be able to focus and remain calm with anything you face.

Hit that button and send the target up to you to it check out, girl. Accomplishment. There is nothing like the feeling of seeing you hit your target close - or even dead on - where you aimed. At this point, it's not about killing. It's not about war. It's not about hunting. It's not about the device being used for any deadly means. It is about the control you had in your hands, the focus and stability in your body and the strength you had to pull the trigger.

So the next time your man tells you how "hot" it would be if you just held a gun, don't cringe at the sexual implication. Ask him to take you to the shooting range, surprise him. You may be amazed how easy it is to get over this fear and feel a little more empowered.
