Place names are becoming a more popular trend in recent times. The most famous person named after a place has to be Paris Hilton. Michael Jackson's daugter also shares her name. Paris is a popular unisex name. Other place names are gaining popularity, like Orlando (Orlando Bloom).
Using place names for baby names benefits boys more. One reason for this is that place names have been turned into surnames and the practice of giving surnames as first-names has traditionally benefited boys. However, country names are more traditionally given to girls as they appear more feminine, such as Asia or India.
Place names can be very exotic and really make a person stand out. They give an added beauty to a person just through their name. You could name your child after the place they were concieved for the place they were born to give their name extra significance, as long as the name is apporpriate of course.
Jordan is common unisex name but is rarely considered a place name, despite it being one.
