As you flip through the baby name books, nothing seems to be just what you are looking for. You want some inspiration as well as a rare and unique name for your son. Forgeting all about the name, you flip the tube on to your favorite station... whatever station is airing the Chicago Cubbies.

Then it hits you! Ah, maybe we should name him after one of the players. Nah, it has to be more unique then that. Your little lady is carrying a future MVP... a future Hall of Famer. That's it, you decide to present a list of Chicago Cubs Hall of Famers to your wife, with your fingers crossed, that she will love the idea as well.

Here is a run down of all of the Chicago Cubs Hall of Famers and a little about each one of them. They are in no particular order and I will add that many of the names are rather unique.

Mordecai Brown - First of all Mordecai is a Biblical name. He was the cousin to Queen Esther (the young Jewish queen who saved the Jews from the King's wrath). His nickname was "Three Finger". The reason is because he lost a part of his index finger when he was younger. He had 239 victories, naming him one of the best pitchers of the early 20th century. He was elected in the Hall of Fame in 1949. The meaning of the name is little man and is of Hebrew origin.

Kiki Cuyler - This baseball player is well known for his knack in stealing bases and reserved that role four times in his career. He was also known for his seeing eye base hits, as well. This is actually a nick name but one that fans know him by. It is English in origin.

Johnny Evers - This second baseman helped the Cubs into 2 World Championships. Johnny is a rather common name, but if you are a Cub fan in awe over this baseball player's performance, that is good enough to name your little slugger after him. This name means God is gracious and is of Hebrew origin.

Gabby Harnett - This catcher was also an awesome hitter. He led the National League in putouts, four times. He was also the 1935 National League MVP, as well. He helped the Cubs win their pennant in 1938, known as the 'Homer in the Gloamin'. This is undoubtly a unique name, meaning God is my might and it is also of Hebrew origin.

Billy Herman - This player owns many of the fielding records, including the most putouts in a season by a National League second baseman. He was a 10 time all star and master of the hit and run play. This is a German name and means will desire.

Fergie Jenkins - Canada's first hall of famer was the master of pinpoint control and was responsible for the win of 284 games. He also earned the Cy Young Award in 1971. There is no meaning for this name, but as you can see, there is definitely inspiration here for naming that little man of yours.

Ryne Sandberg - This is the National Leagues 1984 MVP. He is also known for his throw and earned him nine consecutive Gold Glove Awards. He also ran 282 homers in his career. Ryne is an American name, with no meaning as of yet.

Bruce Sutter - This Chicago Cubs great is known for his injured arm and a lesson from a baseball veteran. He learned a new pitch that he adopted and used it to take himself to the top. This pitch is known as the split fingered fastball. He is also known as the 1979 National League Cy Young Award-winner. Bruce is an English name that has no meaning as of yet.

Joe Tinker - Any Cubs fans know about the Chicago Cubs' famed double-play trio? This shortstop is one of them. He is also known by helping the Cubs win four pennants and manager/player for the Reds as well. Joe is a Hebrew name and means He will enlarge.

Hack Wilson - He won four home run titles and was well known for his home runs and hitting. This is a rather unusual name, but the inspiration makes it worth naming your little slugger after him. This is an English name and it means hooked nose; hunched body. Weird meaning, but great inspiration, none the less.

There are so many names that you can name your new baby, however where is the true inspiration and what makes it unique? There are great reasons for naming your little slugger after some of the best baseball players in American history. Name him after a baseball hall of famer.
