Nameless City: A Poem

DeVon Conley
Darkness, Darkness within the night,
In the nameless city in my mind, there is no light.
Greed, hatred and ignorance corrupt all but the young,
Who grow old from the lessons that shouldn't be sung.
Where people are killed for just being different,
Or even if the killer was merely being ignorant.
Where religion has a thousand holes,
But to some, it's just another way to take your souls.
Where the leaders are corrupt, spouting lies like geysers,
Yet attract attention like grand burning pyres.
Lack of censorship is what some believe to be the problem,
But in truth, the problem's not only there, they caused them.
In this nameless city, the people are blind,
And those who can see are paid no mind.
