Nancy Grace wants "Sister Wives" star Kody Brown in jail because polygamy is a third degree felony in Utah. Kody Brown faces up to five years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine for each count of polygamy. He is legally married only to his first wife Meri. He is therefore a bigamist with Janelle, Christine and Robyn. Technically he could face a $150,000 fine and up to 15 years in prison
Nancy Grace wants "Sister Wives" star Kody Brown in jail because it does not matter if he is not legally married to all for wives. If he lives with them as if they are married knowing that he is married to someone else it is still a crime.
Nancy Grace wants "Sister Wives" star Kody Brown in jail because it is psychologically damaging to the 16 children that live in the home. Kody does not seem to care if it hurts his wives or his children to be in their situation. Most likely the wives will not be charged even if Kody is charged with a crime. The children would be able to continue to live with at least Meri.
Nancy Grace wants "Sister Wives" star Kody Brown in jail because their is plenty of video evidence. Video evidence is the best evidence that you can have in a case. Grace believes that there is more video evidence that audiences have not even seen.
Although Nancy believes that a crime has clearly been committed, she is not confident that Utah authorities will prosecute or convict Kody Brown for polygamy.
Meri has lost her job since the show first air a few weeks ago.
Janelle was previously married to Meri's brother, but divorced him before marrying Kody.
Christine and Meri have been visibly upset over the latest addition to the family, Robyn. After 16-20 years of marriage and 13 children that were all raised together, Kody added a 4th wife that was younger, cuter and skinnier than the other wives. Kody has been giddy with his excitement over his new wife which has hurt the other wives.
Robyn's previous husband, David Preston Jessop with whom she has three children is also an alleged polygamist, but they never took a second wife while she was married to him.

Who doesn't Nancy Grace want in jail?? Personally, Kody should have never subjected his family to this. However, the "wives" and "children" all seem to be ok and happy; and Kody seems to be able to financially provide for them all. Maybe someone should slap him for stupidity but to place him and jail and cause his family to suffer is wrong. Nancy needs a life. She probable thinks people who j-walk should be in jail. Whatever she can do to boost her ratings and her book. She is tired and full of hot air.
WashiWashi - The law in the state of Utah states that it is illegal to live with someone "as if" you are married to them, while you are married to someone else. It is also illegal for your common law spouse to live with the person they know is legally married to someone else. It is a crime. It is felony bigamy.
Kody hasnt broken any laws people!! He is NOT LEGALLY MARRIED TO ANY OF THEM except Meri.
The other 3 wives he just gave rings, and had a wedding ceremony as a symbol for his love and committment to be their partner as long as they shared their lifes with the other wifes with the promise to also bear Kody some children.
HE IS NOT a criminal.
He IS NOT a true polygamist.
HE HAS NOT BROKEN ANY LAWS.

In the state of Utah it is illegal and considered bigamy if you are living with someone "as if you are married." It is similar to common law marriage. It does not matter that they did not have a legal wedding. Kody is clearly living will all the wives. It may not seem damaging when one family is doing it, but if everyone practiced polygamy, our society would be very screwed up.
I agree.....cannot understand what law they have broken if in fact he is only legally married to one woman. If I understand it correctly, the other marriages are not legal. Maybe a CPS or DFS issue maybe at best if there is serious concern about the children's welfare, but jail time because he lives with 4 women?? Save jail space for serious offenders/crimes and people who are NOT taking care of thier children.
Why is it illegal if they aren't actually married? That really makes no sense.
