Nancy Grace's Disorderly Wardrobe Malfunction on 'DWTS'
NSFW Photos Online Show HLN Host Definitely Made Indecent Disclosure
Apparently it was a newsworthy moment. HLN current affairs show host Nancy Grace had part of her anatomy become "Exhibit A" (or was it "B?") on Monday evening's episode of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars." It was big enough news for Piers Morgan to interrupt his own CNN show to announce that the Twitterverse that had been afire with things Michael Moore-ish (his guest for the evening) was now consumed with postings about Grace and her wayward breast.
Not that the incident wouldn't have gotten plenty of reporting. The popular ex-prosecutor's wardrobe malfunction (or was it a so-called nip slip?) was duly noted and entered into the "DWTS" official record.
"On the European version, that would be absolutely fine," host Tom Bergeron insisted as Grace and her professional partner, Tristan McManus, made their way to stand before the judges.
Len Goodman's response? "How refreshing," he said, although it was not clear as to what he referred (the sight of breasts is common on British television).
However, Judge Bruno Tonioli could not restrain himself, passing down a sentence weighted with double entendre.
"It was a bit top-heavy at times," he said.
But Grace says it never happened, telling Entertainment Weekly afterward that while dancing "there was a little bit of movement but it did not rise to a wardrobe malfunction." But it wasn't the dancing that caused Tonioli's eyes to nearly detach themselves from within their sockets. Photos of the incident have gone viral online. And even though Grace spoke of "industrial strength precautions" taken, there was more that met the eye than "a little bit of jiggling."
Grace joins a few other notable contestants on "DWTS" who have had clothing mishaps over the years.
Back in April 2009 (Season 8), rapper Lil Kim set the Internet on fire when the curious decided to get a closer look at the "How Many Licks?" artist. Unlike Grace, Lil Kim didn't just suffer a nip slip but nearly lost her entire top before recovering, getting a little help from host Tom Bergeron as an impromptu screen.
A few years before during Season 3, actress Monique Coleman nearly lost the bottom of her costume in the middle of a spin.
But wardrobe malfunctions and nip slips should be expected, especially given the skimpiness of many of the outfits -- and could quite possibly be part of the reason why "Dancing With The Stars" is such a popular show. Designer Randall Christensen told the New York Daily News just prior to Season 12 that the possibility for a wardrobe malfunction was a very real one: "The producers do like to push it a bit -- push the sparseness, the bareness."
