Nancy Pelosi : Agenda for America

Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, has always made waves in Washington. As the first woman to be sworn in as Speaker of the House, she is now ready to make bigger waves. Pelosi has already made her stances on several key issues facing Democrats. And is gearing up for a possible fight over Iraq with President Bush.

The Democrats in the midterm elections in November, won control of Congress. With them winning control, Pelosi has become the first woman Speaker of the House and second inline for the Presidency of the United States. Thus making her, the most powerful woman in politics and possibly in American itself. Pelosi had already made clear of her intentions upon entering the new position she found herself. She had promised new ethic guidelines for Congress, stating that "cleaning out the house" at the top of her agenda, along with the war in Iraq. But she has made it clear that there would not be any "revenge" tactics towards the Republicans and that this is the time for by-partisanship. She made it clear that her and the new Congress are willing to work with President Bush on Iraq and developing a strategy for Iraq.

That was until President Bush stated that he would call for additional troop support in Iraq. Pelosi was clear when asked by a reporter if she would support additional troops in Iraq; she responded with a simple "no". Pelosi was clear in the midterm elections when she stated that she thought a new strategy should be put into place but without additional troops. She has also stated that it is up to the President, himself, to construct a plan for Iraq that calls for the Iraqis, themselves, to begin to take over their own country. For the Iraqis to control their own streets, their own security, and basically, their own country. She has stated that she thinks the Iraqis, themselves, are responsible for their own country and their own future.

She has also stated what her goals are for the newly Democrat powered House. Ethic reform is at the top of her agenda. The scandals that plagued the Republican party in 2006 and prior, wont rock the Capitol again, she hopes. She hoping to changes the laws and the rules concerning lobbyists and payments to them. She wants to bring back to Congress and the American people the values, ideals, and hope that had been lost over the last twelve years. She's hoping to bring the military up to 21st century standards concerning national security. She is basically hoping to revamp America to face the 21st century.

I love Nancy Pelosi... I couldn't stand how people were judging her before she even started. People said they didn't want to see "San Francisco values" running Congress. LOL - Some "San Francisco values" is exactly what the House needs after 12 years under Republican control!!
