During Nanowrimo, your goal is to write a 50,000 word novel, it doesn't have to be the next bestseller. Keep on writing no matter how dull or outstandingly stupid you work is. November is Nanowrimo; you can edit your novel in the following month of December. You can write up to 2,500 words in a three hour timeframe, if you lock out your inner editor and just write mind to pen. It is ok, however, to correct simple spelling and grammar mistakes within your novel, just not the characters, plot and other key fiction elements.
Set-up a writing station that you are comfortable writing in. Have a few snacks and a drink next to you. The room you are using should be vacant of all outside noises unless you like to write with music in the background. Since Nanowrimo is internet based, you should have a computer to type and upload your work with. You should be able to write for long durations of time with the computer's keyboard. A notebook is inadequate for Nanowrimo; you will eventually have to type your work. Your writing environment should be a place you are comfortable writing in.
A lot of work is required to write a novel in one month, but you are human and need to rest. Take regular breaks when writing to stretch or just lie down. Make sure to stretch your fingers after typing or writing. Do not engage in distracting activities, such as calling a friend. Breaks should not be too long or too short. 10-15 minutes per hour you write is good. Mae sure to drink a lot of water and not skip meals during Nanowrimo.
Writing a book is not an easy task, you should reward yourself with clothes, shoes, food or whatever you like. Do not let yourself get discouraged. It is great to have friends or family to support you and help you continue writing. Whatever you do, do not stop creating your novel. An uninteresting novel is better than an unfinished novel.
