Naomi Campbell - Blood Diamonds for Profit or Ignorance?

Theresa L.
If you ever watched the movie Blood Diamonds, than you will understand what my topic of today is about, and no it is not about Leonardo DiCaprio. It is about Model Naomi Campbell. Before I go into that, I want to explain Blood Diamonds. Blood Diamonds are the mining of diamonds in Africa for the purpose of war. The diamonds are sold for weapons, used to kill people with, hence the name blood diamonds. .

A few minutes ago, I read an article in the Associated Press, and it made me wonder if someone could be as stupid as they made Naomi Campbell. In the article by Associated Press, Campbell stated two men knocked on her door and handed her a bag with three diamonds. The article then went on to say she gave the diamonds to a friend to use them to help out with Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.

How stupid can Naomi Campbell be? Seriously, if two men knocked on your door late at night and handed you a bag of diamonds are you going to keep them or donate them? Does she realize how much trouble she could have gotten into?

Campbell did not get into trouble, her friend who was the director of the NMCF at the time, did not want to implicate Campbell, himself, or the NMCF and handed the diamonds over to the authorities.

She is a beautiful woman, but clearly all that hairspray and lights has messed with Naomi Campbell's mind. No one in there right mind would take Blood Diamonds, and that was what these diamonds were. They were Blood Diamonds, something many people are trying to stop. It was the sole reason Leonardo DiCarprio did the movie Blood Diamonds.

Now you have a model, someone many young adults look up to, willingly taking them and donating them to another cause. Is Naomi Campbell simply ignorant or did she believe that giving them to the NMCF would make one bad deed, a good deed?

The right thing should have been to give the diamonds over to authorities. To help these children, women, and these men that are forced to mine the diamonds, and later slaughtered because of a war. Thinking you are doing the right thing, and doing it are two different things. Campbell is lucky her friend is not in jail right now. Campbell is lucky she is not in jail, and only has to testify. If done the right way, she would still have to testify, but the people she brought into it by her ignorance would have been left out of it.Then again, perhaps Campbell is not ignorant at all. After all, how many people would actually keep anything handed over to them, knowing it was illegal?

Naomi Campbell is not the brightest of supermodels to begin with so her naive behavior does not surprise me. Well written article!

Christopher you said it nicely, and it is not just you. If it was me, or anyone else, we would be sitting in jail right now.

I think most anyone would have known better. good article

She should have known better, and if she didn't she should have been surrounded by someone else who knew better. This is the model who I once thought was the hottest Black woman on the planet, before she was hitting people in the head with telephones. and not just any phones but old school phones you get from AT&T. No sympathy or respect for this woman at all; and she is going to say that she did not want to be there because she did not want to be caught up in it? If I went into court and said that I would be arrested right on the spot there would be no more deliberation or jury testimony. I am ashamed for her ...
