Naomi Campbell: Charged with Assault Using Her Cell Phone?

For the Second Time

Naomi Campbell started her community service in March of 2007.

Is it justice, or did she get a pretty light sentence, as a multiple offender, for sending an employee to the hospital? Naomi Campbell, known as much for her modeling career as for her diva-esk temper, has been charged before with assaulting her employees--one of which she bashed in the head with a hotel telephone. In that particular case she was let go as long as she "expressed remorse." How many people do you know that can legally get away with bashing an employee in the head just by saying "I'm sorry?" Yeah, that's right.

There were several other telephone bashing incidents, the latest, of which she was charged, required the employee to go to the hospital to receive stitches on her head. She attacked the former employee with a bejeweled cell phone. As a result, Naomi Campbell has been required to serve five days of community service and two days of anger management.

Say huh? Think about that for a second. Hospital. Bloody head. Stitches. And the attacker, with a history of inflicting severe physical violence, is given five days of community service and two days (two days!) of anger management.

Meanwhile, ordinary citizens get more than that for unpaid parking tickets (exaggeration, but you get the point). Is this lax punishment for the model a reflection of a culture obsessed with the idea of beauty or is it that she just has a lot of money for a lawyer that's able to fight for her?

Who knows? She may be beautiful on the outside, yes, but the inside seems to leave much to be desired. And It is interesting to note that the law firm that represented Naomi Campbell in past cases has severed all ties with her. Wow. That's bad, when a lawyer-of all things-won't take your money anymore.

Okay, let's set up the scenario. You're a 'regular' person. You just find out, say, your employee is stealing from you. Thousands of dollars. So, you beat him/her in the head with the business end of a telephone while threatening him/her with further bodily injury. There are witnesses, other evidence of the event, etc. And so he/she presses charges and sues you. Can you guess what's going to happen next?

Maybe if you have a good lawyer you can get a good plea deal. Temporary insanity, as long as you don't have a criminal history of violence. If so, and you're walking the streets again, it's a safe bet to say you'd better watch your back. But if you're like most people, you'll get a public defender who couldn't care less about your case and you'll get all sorts of craziness thrown your way (mostly justified, because, you know, you did beat a person in the head with a blunt object).

Well... that's the breaks.

Naomi Campbell may be a very lucky person, able to get away with things that most can't even fathom. But her "good" luck may also be running out. Hopefully she realizes this and will do something about her behavior. At the least take frequent boxing classes to release that venom. Because the next employee on which she decides to physically take out her aggressions will have more than enough to kick her behind in self-defense AND sue her right into poverty, as well as send the model to the jailhouse. And I'm guessing there won't be any jewel-encrusted cell phones in the penitentiary. Or people that take too kindly to temper tantrums.

Does that shank come with rubies?
