Naomi Wolf - Occupy Wallstreet - Arrested

Julie Wimmer
Naomi Wolf, a feminist author, and her partner, film producer, Avram Ludiwg were arrested at Occupy Wallstreet in New York when she disputed police claims that they had a permit that would allow them to clear the sidewalk of protesters.

The Occupy Wallstreet protests were taking place in the Soho district of Manhattan where there was an awards ceremony taking place to honour New York's governor, Andrew Cuomo. Wolf was actually invited to this event, but she was taken away by New York police in handcuffs after she apparently had addressed the protesters that were demonstrating outside.

Wolf took an interest in the Occupy Wallstreet protesters when she noticed authorities pushing the demonstrators back, away from the venue, and eventually across the street. Claiming this is against first amendment rights, she told the protestors that the permit could not force them from the sidewalk, and then walked up and down that sidewalk with some of the protestors.

Wolf was arrested when she would not get out of the officer's way while they were, allegedly "illegally" trying to clear the sidewalk.

The Occupy Wallstreet protestors were demonstrating because of all the police brutality on activists. The irony was that Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, was being honored by the Huffington Post as "game changer of the year."

We are wired as Americans to speak up and out about things, it's in our blood. What irks me is that these protesters are doing things that infringe on innocent people's lives. Our friend was working in NYC and just trying to get home to see his wife and kids. The protesters were on the Brooklyn Bridge and spilled on to the roadway. The police had no choice but to close the Bridge. Our friend never made it home and had to return to NYC and get a hotel room for the night. Sadly, he never made it home and went to work the next day. You can protest but don't block others from doing what they want to do. cheers
