A sequel to Killzone was released in 2006. Killzone: Liberation on the PSP is better than the original title. However, it didn't do nearly as well as the market. One of the big reasons is that the disappointment of the first title killed the anticipation of the second game. Being a handheld game doesn't help it either.
So after the underwhelming performance of the first two titles, not many gamers were looking forward to Killzone 2 on the Playstation 3. Even with the impressive trailers, there was much skepticism. It all went away, however, when Killzone 2 launched in late February this year on the Playstation 3. The realistic gunplay along with the immersive atmosphere made the scrutinized title one of the best exclusive games on the Playstation 3 to date.
The online multiplayer is the main selling point for Killzone 2. Along with the well-designed maps, the online battle includes unique classes with different abilities for a more diverse experience than your usual first-person shooter.
Because of the popularity of the online mode of Killzone 2, two map packs were released for it: Steel & Titanium and Flash & Thunder. Steel & Titanium has two maps based on levels in the single-player campaign. The Flash & Thunder pack features two multiplayer maps from the first game.
The theme behind the upcoming Napalm & Cordite for Killzone 2 multiplayer is specialized weapons. In the single-player mode, gamers run into two powerful weapons: VC1 Flamethrower and VC21 Boltgun. The previously single-player exclusive weapons will be available for use in the upcoming Napalm & Corditepack for Killzone 2.
To prepare for the upcoming pack, developer Guerrilla Games will be updating Killzone 2 with a new patch. Along with new trophies, the new patch will also include several improved features and gameplay fixes.
Patch 1.28 for Killzone 2 takes up 91 MB on the Playstation 3 hard drive. The Napalm & Cordite pack for the Playstation 3 will appear soon afterwards on the Playstation Store of the Playstation 3. No price has been announced for the latest Killzone 2 map pack but it should be the same as the previous two at $5.99.
