Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2010 RTW

Unlike the colorless Max Azria collection Rodriguez does make use of color for his collection in interesting if not all that aesthetically appealing ways. Combinations such as hot pink with black and white graphic prints in one garment, though an interesting concept tends to make ones eyes hurt if stared at for more than 10 seconds. Although if Rodriguez desired to play with color he should have tackled color on the white retro looking dress on slide 9, that reminds me of former British model Twiggy during the 1960s. However, there were two designs that stood out for me in the collection. Both items mention can be found on Style.com within the slide show of Narciso Rodriguez' spring 2010 collection.

A Woven Vision of Beauty (slide 13)

Perhaps the best piece in the collection but definitely my favorite is the color block tan and black dress with a sheer cowl neck upper. This strong piece is impeccably structured with perfect style seams working with the softness of the woven fabric. This dress appears to fall two to four inches above knee almost making it a mini, but not quite. The most interesting and seemingly most complex part of this dress is the back neckline. There is a double neckline on the dress one is a part of the sheer upper the other is a separate strip of fabric that forms the back neck then flows down to the armhole in the front. The dress also has a long back zipper with extremely wide tape that works perfectly with the color block look of the garment.

A Trendy Inkblot (slide 27)

The other standout of the Narciso Rodriguez collection is a short sexy black sheer dress with pink graphic print strategically placed to keep one modest. The most striking pat of this sure hit, is what the dress looks like, an inkblot. This dress is definitely a head turner and conversation piece. I can definitely picture reactions from jealousy to sheer wonder trying to figure what the print on the dress is. For the chic avant garde female, this dress is a winner.

As I've previously stated this is not a favorite collection but it does contain two of my favorite designs of the spring 2010 New York shows. However, fashion while often dictated, is in the end subject to personal taste. So view the entire Narciso Rodriguez spring 2010 collection slide show on Style.com and decide for yourself whish designs are a hit or a miss.
