NASCAR: The Chase is Tightening Now

Ten Final Drivers, One Can't Be Beaten Out, and an Exciting 12th Position Competition

Lori Gunn
The NASCAR nation loves it when the race for the chase gets down to the nitty-gritty. Ten spots are locked up, with eleventh place almost a given and the elusive number twelve open for several drivers.

The great drivers, with great cars and great teams, that are definitely in the top ten are:
Kevin Harvick, car number 29
Jeff Gordon, car number 24
Kyle Busch, car number 18
Tony Stewart, car number 14
Carl Edwards, car number 99
Jeff Burton, car number 31
Jimmie Johnson, car number 48
Kurt Busch, car number 3
Matt Kenseth, car number 17
Danny Hamlin, car number 11

Greg Biffle will make it a Roush Fenway Racing Tripleheader if he starts Saturday night's race at Richmond. He established enough points to safely stay in the top twelve with the start, joining teammates Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth. Of course, this is a serious championship event, so if he can finish any of the remaining races better than Edwards or Kenseth, they will understand. They will understand they have to come out the following week prepared to race a little harder, or differently, and of course, hope for the best conditions and a bit of luck.

Twelve Contenders
Twelve contenders for the cup: who's missing? There are four possibilities. Clint Bowyer has the edge right now, but is being challenged by Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, and Mark Martin. I'm not going to try and forecast the result. If any of you want to leave a comment regarding the one in four who will walk away from the race in the Chase, please leave a comment.

My favorite driver is in the Chase this year. I know a lot of Junior fans are feeling down right now, but it has been a good season, and there is always next year.

Good luck to all the drivers! Stay safe and drive tough!

  • Ten of the spots for the chase are locked up.
  • Biffle definitely has either 11th or 12th Chase spot if he starts Saturday night in Richmond.
Roush Fenway Racing most likely will have 3 drivers in the 2010 chase.
