NASCAR Phoenix Subway 500 2011: Las Vegas Odds to Win & Top Five Picks

Will an Open Wheel Graduate Win This Weekend?

Todd Jacobs
The NASCAR Sprint Cup series embarks on a two week swing through the Southwest with their first stop in Phoenix February 27th for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Jimmie Johnson is still the prohibitive favorite heading into this race and for good reason. Johnson's average finish at PIR is 4.9. by far the best average finish of any other driver.

When it comes to betting tracks such as Phoenix it pays to look towards drivers with longer odds. Ryan Newman won last year in the April race at 30-1 and it paid off. Finding a live dog at that price will not be difficult. Mark Martin has an average finish of 8.4 which is second only to Jimmie Johnson at PIR. Martin is 25-1 and in a Hendrick Motorsports Chevy.

Best Bet to win Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500: Kasey Kahne 30-1

Kasey Kahne is 30-1 entering this race and his No.4 Toyota Red Bull Racing team has never been much of a factor with Scott Speed. So why take Kasey Kahne at 30-1? The price is right and Kasey Kahne is an open wheel driver from the ranks of sprint car racing. The Toyota motors are strong up off the corners and this will translate well on the Phoenix flat track. Take Kasey Kahne at 30-1 to win this week at PIR.

2nd Best Bet to Win Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500: Kurt Busch 15-1

Kurt Busch was dominant during Daytona Speedweeks and the key was engineering. Penske Racing narrowed their NASCAR Sprint Cup operation to two cars and the result was more eyes on the two car operation and with a shorter season for the IRL operation, all of those engineers were able to work with the NASCAR team also. With all those minds working together the results will be recognized quickly. Phoenix is an aerodynamic track and Busch will do well.

3rd Best Pick to Win Phoenix Subway Fresh Fit 500: Dale Earnhardt Jr. 30-1

Dale Earnhardt Jr. being picked to win a race? Dale Jr. had the equipment to win last weekend in Daytona but he had a horrible run of luck. This week he goes to a short track and although he does not match up well in the career statistical categories he is well worth a bet at 30-1.

Cover Bet to win Subway Fresh Fit 500: Tony Stewart 10-1

A cover bet is made to cover the other bets made on a race. It comes into play on a driver with short odds. Stewart is a solid bet and he has the credentials to gain consideration from the betting public.

Long Shot Bet to Win Subway Fresh Fit 500: Bobby Labonte 75-1

Bobby Labonte has a Toyota with a big engine and on this track it will be featured prominently. Labonte has a car capable of getting home in first.

Remember to always shop the lines on all NASCAR races. Some Sportsbooks will throw out more drivers and longer odds. This week Trevor Bayne is on the board at 60-1 and last week he was in the field at 30-1 at some sportsbooks.
