NASCAR's Drug Policy and a Conspiracy Theory; and Junior Fans...Mission Accomplished.

Carol Brown
One of my favorite things to do is to seek patterns in random, every-day occurrences and try and reason why things happen as they do. Most of the time this results in either some wildly crazy conspiracy theories, or to once again re-affirm the fact that Karma does exist. And there is no better place to find some fantastic fodder for conspiracy theories than in the world of NASCAR. (It's all part of the Subculture.)

So, while perusing Jayski's website, one of my favorite hunting grounds for juicy nuggets of knowledge, I happened to come across a link to a copy of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy. So of course I had to look at it! I found quite a bit of interesting stuff in there. In fact, the more I read, the more these random thoughts started forming in my head. I will list some of the tidbits noted in this policy, and then we together, as a group, can see if any of the current drivers fit the profile that NASCAR has laid out.

First, a disclaimer... I am not accusing anyone of taking drugs. I am just reading a document, and coming to a somewhat logical conclusion based on recent events...and sharing them with all who read this. I mean... us NASCAR fans have got to talk about this stuff, right?

Okay...enough suspense! On page three of the copy of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy document that I printed off of the internet, it states that NASCAR can make you take a drug test if they notice any odd conditions or behavior in a competitor or official. Here is a sample of some of the behaviors they list as suspect:

'Some of the conditions, observations and/or reports that may cause a NASCAR official to have such a reasonable suspicion are as follows:'

'Repeated unexplained disappearances from an event.' (Like zipping away in a golf cart so you won't have to talk to the media?)

'Time distortion, including repeated tardiness or missed appointments.' (Like not showing up to the required press conference after a race?)

'Mental confusion, paranoia or presence of abnormal thoughts or ideas.' (Ideas like taking a beautiful Gibson Guitar hand painted by Sam Bass and smashing it to smithereens on the concrete? Or the paranoia that another drivers fans are crazy and don't like you?)

'Violent tendencies, loss of temper or irritability.' (Enough said...)

Ah, I love a good conspiracy theory. In all reality, I do NOT think the person we are all picturing in our minds (looks like Pee Wee) would take drugs and ruin his career or his life...however, I certainly think he should modify his behavior otherwise the talking heads at NASCAR may turn their beady eyes in his direction.

Speaking of the paranoia... Junior Fans, Rejoice! The plan is working. You all have achieved the goal you have been working towards... you have officially gotten into Kyle Busch's head! He stated this weekend that he thought it was Junior's fans (the ones with tattoos on their arms) that disliked the smashing of the Sam Bass Gibson Guitar. Then he stated that he had no problem with Junior himself but that he thought his fans were 'crazy'. Notice that after he smashed the guitar, he hasn't won a thing? It was very gratifying to see Joey Logano drive right around him to take the lead and subsequently win the Nationwide race this weekend. (Not to mention saving the poor trophy from an uncertain future.) I think that it's hilarious that the so-called 'crazy' Junior fans have gotten to poor Kyle. (Either that, or Karma is at work again.) So I would like to congratulate Junior Nation for their efforts. Another theory just formed in my head...Karma must be part of Junior Nation! What a great thing to have on their side.

On a final note, I want to extend my best wishes to current Truck Series champion Johnny Benson, who was in a fiery crash in a Supermodified race over the weekend. Benson has broken ribs and is very sore, but will make a full recovery. Get well soon Johnny!

  • Conspiracy Theories abound in NASCAR.
  • Junior Fans are a powerful bunch.

To Lyn B~ Thanks for chiming in! So Smoke's fans dislike Pee Wee too... Notice the Vile one doesn't pick on Smoke's fans? He's afraid...and notice how he stated he had nothing against Junior, just his fans... so he calls out the ones that can't get to him physically, making sure to play it safe with those who CAN get to him. What does that say about the guy? BTW~ Many JR nation peeps love Smoke too! ~CB

Marissa come to the brickyard race with us. We are Junior and smoke fans and we are the nicest fans. You can share our food, drink and fun before and after the race. Sorry you have had problems at other tracks...they must have been Peanuthead fans dressed in diguise

Sorry to rain on your parade, ladies. Junior has had the "love train" going for him long before he ever got into Cup racing. On the other hand, Kyle has been booed and hated from his very first race because he was Kurt's brother and everybody hated Kurt. He has concluded that nothing he does will make a difference so he is using the hate to his advantage. I get a very big kick out of watching him bait the media and the jr nation to see what kind of reaction he can get from them. His performance on track is his sweet revenge. If you ever met him when he is not "in character", you'll find him to be a really good guy.

Thanks for people's responses. I knew there had to be nice Jr fans out there. I would love to met them. I'm sure we could get along just fine. I have been to both Dover and Pocono and in the area's I was in, I met the rude ones. I am hoping if I get to go again soon I met the good ones. I really hope Jr does well with his new CC. I would like to see him win a couple of races this year. I listen to different drivers on the the scanner, and what I find funny is both Jeff and Jr are potty mouths when they get mad! LOL!!! It cracks me up listening to the stuff that flows outta their mouths. Peace all. :)

Why is it that everyone thinks that only Junior Nation dislikes Kyle? We're Tony Stewart fans and don't like a thing about Kyle. Sure the kid is talented - but that is all he has going for him. And Marissa - you need to broaden your circle. I know plenty of Junior Nation and not one of them has ever wished another driver dead. EVER. Prayers going Johnny's way.

Marissa, I wanted to chime in and say- I've never hated Jeff G.--maybe a little too jealous of what he has at HMS with all of the wins anc championships. That's what I want for Junior. I've never been one to yell hate-filled things at anyone about anyone that they like and especially to be so disrepectful to spit on anyone. If you met me, we'd be friends or at least could sit side by side and cheer our guys on. I like Jeff and wish him the best. I've even learned to like his teammate Jimmie J in the last year so that says alot! LOL But Kyle Busch will never win me over no matter what he does. His attitude kills it.

No offense Marissa, I don't think the article was about Jeff. I'm pretty sure it was ment to be directed at Kyle Bush. But I am a Jr fan and I like and respect all the driver's who have wonderful and respectful attitudes. I like all of the Hendricks crew and I absolutely love the new kid, he was certainly brought up right. Us Jr. fans have had to put up with a lot of crap ever since he started racing. I have followed racing all my life, and thats a long time, trust me. I have never hated any of them. Not even Kyle, he is a wonderfully talented driver. I just don't care for his attitude and non respect for anyone, including his own crew. My heart goes out for Johnny Benson and his family..get well soon Johnny!! Take care all.

And there you go...I just wish we(Jrnation)would Karma his butt right up to the checkard flag.

  • Marissa6/16/2009

Thanks for the response Carol! I read the article you just said. It is a great article. Thanks. You are right, Jeff has done nothing to deserve that hate, that is the truth. I would love to see Jeff win this weekend! And I hope Jr can get a top ten. I have nothing against Jr himself. It's his fans I dislike. They can dish it out, but can't take it. Now that they are getting a taste of their own medicine, that don't like it. Too bad they could not see that years ago, before the hate for Jeff got out of hand.

To Marissa~ I am so sorry that those individuals said those things to you! In any barrel, there are some bad apples. I really like Jeff Gordon and have always been a fan of his. He's actually from the same area as me so he is our local hero. If you check one of my earlier Subculture articles, I wrote about Jeff and how he doesn't deserve the hate he gets. Thanks for commenting! I appreciate it. Let's hope we can see the #24 in Victory Lane this weekend and the #88, with luck, somewhere in the top ten! ~Carol
