In 1993, with only two seasons in the OHL, Jason Arnott was drafted to the Edmonton Oilers. He was Edmonton's first-round pick, 7th overall, which speaks for his skill. Jason Arnott spent no time in the AHL (American Hockey League) and played his rookie season with the Edmonton Oilers in the 1993-1994 season. During his first season with the Oilers, Jason Arnott was selected for the NHL All-Rookie Team and played for Canada in the 1994 World Championship. Jason Arnott stayed with the Edmonton Oilers for the 1994-1995, 1995-1996, 1996-1997, and part of the 1997-1998 season. In 1997, Jason Arnott was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game.
In January of 1998, Jason Arnott was traded by the Edmonton Oilers to the New Jersey Devils. He finished out the rest of the 1997-1998 season with the New Jersey Devils and played his first full season with them the following year. Arnott remained with the New Jersey Devils for the 1999-2000, 2000-2001, and part of the 2001-2002 season. The New Jersey Devils won the Stanley Cup in 2001, a win that Jason Arnott is well-known for. Arnott scored the winning goal in double overtime in game six of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Dallas Stars, winning the Cup for the Devils. In the 2001-2002 season, Jason Arnott was traded to the Dallas Stars, which was not a move well-received among Dallas fans because of the playoffs the year before.
Jason Arnott played with the Dallas Stars the 2002-2003, 2003-2004, and 2005-2006 seasons. During the NHL Lockout of 2004-2005, Arnott did not play. Jason Arnott signed a six-year contract with the Nashville Predators and started with them the 2006-2007 season. Jason Arnott has been played with the Nashville Predators since then. Arnott holds the Nashville Predator's records for most goals scored in a single season, a record title he gained in the 2008-2009 season when he scored thirty-three goals.
