Grant's own conviction was awakened after viewing a popular NBC drama, "Law & Order". While Grant was aware of some of the reality of human trafficking, the shocking and horrific images of 11 and 12 year old girls who were shipped all over America to be used as slaves and forced into prostitution, was something that couldn't be ignored.
While Grant would have preferred not to believe her eyes in regards to the horrible reality exposed by Law & Order, she decided that something needed to be done.
Later that night, Grant researched via computer and was horrified to learn that every year more than 600,000 people are sold and abused world wide, with at least 14,000 shipped to America and kept in cages. Grant is noted for saying, "Homelessness and poverty are tragic enough." The crimes that Grant discovered often remain unspoken of and unheard of by much of the American Public.
The same night, Grant found an organization which was devoted to rescuing and helping children who were victims of the aforestated crimes. The organization helps children by giving them a home, education and skills to make a living on their own. Grant called the organization the same night and expressed her desire to help. Natalie and her husband traveled to India within a few months and found themselves walking through the red-light districs, viewing human trafficking up close.
This experience took place a few months after a stressed-out and restless season for Grant. It also completely changed her life and awakened her out of complacency and passivity. Grant now uses this experience and tragic reality to inspire her music.
Grant notes that it has really been a pivotal point for her artistic and creative journey.
Awaken is likely Grant's most unexpected and compelling project. Her husband alongside Bernie Herms, Phil Symonds, Shjaun Shanke. and Rob Graves produced the album. Natalie wrote or co-wrote half of the songs on the album along with Stephanie Lewis, Trina Harmon and Matthew West.
Grant wanted to be challenged and get out of her comfort zone through the writing of this album.
The 12 songs on Awaken, reveal Natalie's passion for powerful songs that express the truth. The stirring second single, "Held," captivates listeners through the powerful promise of God in times of suffering.
Natalie plans to stay fully awake and alive, making every moment count through her life of music and ministry. She plans to make a difference through the stereo, stage and around the world.
