Nathan Fillion Blasts 'Angry Birds' App on Twitter

Actor Nathan Fillion ("Castle," "Firefly") has publicized his affinity for the already popular smartphone game "Angry Birds"-but now he's taking it back via Twitter.

Fillion initially professed his love for the game on Twitter April 20, 2010, when he tweeted: "My latest addiction: 'Angry Birds.' iPhone, I love you. You are like crack without the prostitution and losing my house."

Like Fillion, millions of smartphone app users appreciate the addictive, achievement-based nature of Rovio's "Angry Birds." While each level of the game may take time and concentration to beat, each attempt takes only seconds, making it the perfect game for people secretly playing games at work, commuting via train or waiting to board a plane.

However, getting stuck on a level in "Angry Birds" is a common problem. Many app users even rage quit the game or delete the app entirely.

While the game is challenging, that isn't Fillion's problem with "Angry Birds." His tweets indicate that he's dissatisfied because the game slows due to advertising-even in the purchased version.

The "Angry Birds" "lite" version is free for Android and iPhone users, but has a limited amount of levels. Gamers must purchase the $0.99 application to advance beyond the lite levels. The lite version's December 2010 update covers the player's current score with ads.

Over 12 million users have downloaded the paid version of the app, and it generates at least $1 million per month for game developer Rovio. Much of that is ad revenue.

The "Angry Birds" application comes in HD for iPad for $5. However, users get a news update between each level. News updates are basically lists of ads, meaning users have paid for an "ad-free" app that delivers ads.

On April 14,2011 (presumably after using the "Angry Birds" app for nearly a year), Fillion tweeted: "Dear 'Angry Birds,' I already paid for you. Now you flood me w ads? Top grossing app not enough? Now you're Greedy Birds. Nate."

Other "Angry Birds" fans agreed. The app's rating on iTunes went from 4.5 stars to 2.5 stars following this change.

Fillion posted an additional tweet mentioning that the ads slowed his game.

Fillion also mentioned his shout-out to "Angry Birds" on a recent "Castle" episode. He ended his tweet with "I await your response," but has not posted an update as of Monday.

I have loved him since he was Joey on One Life To Live! I love Castle, thought the reference was inspired and am thrilled to know he has such sway with the rest of the public.
