Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks

A Product Review

In these tight times, cheap foods, like macaroni and cheese and hot dogs, end up on the menu more and more. And generally we go for the cheapest we can find (or close to it). But when my husband found Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks for just $2.18 he decided the little extra money was worth it.

The package for Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks reminds me of a carnival or a fairground, all decked out in red yellow and green with a giant "Bigger Than The Bun" hot dog taking center stage. And as "Nathan's" began with a single restaurant on Coney Island, and has been the home of the International Hot Dog Eating contest since 1916, it's no surprise that the package captures a bit of that boardwalk feeling.

When you open a package of Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks you will see that these eight franks are much narrower and longer than your average hot dogs. But you won't miss the bulk. One bite of these juicy franks and you'll know why Nathan's is famous. These franks are just that good. They are actually more like bratwurst than a regular hot dog, as they have a snap when you bite in and they are very juicy. I topped one with ketchup, mustard, cheese and homemade chili, and had another with just ketchup and mustard, and both were excellent. Honestly, Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks are even great plain, eaten like a polish sausage.

Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks have "beef" as the first ingredient and I believe that is probably what sets them apart from other hot dogs. They are also nicely seasoned (even including a bit of paprika in the mix).

The drawback to Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks are that they are loaded with calories and fat. There are 170 calories and 31 percent of your daily-recommended allowance of saturated fat in each link. And it's hard to eat just one! Each link also gives you 7 grams of protein, 2 percent of your Vitamin A, and 4 percent of your iron. This doesn't really make up for them being so fatty.

I don't know how Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks stack up against other hot dogs, nutritionally speaking, but they are far in the lead for taste. So if you are gong to indulge in a hot dog anyway, I highly recommend Nathan's Famous "Bigger Than the Bun" Beef Franks.

Enjoy!
