National Frog Month 2009: Do You Have Plans?

Lori Voth
The month of April is quickly approaching and you know what that means. Oh, come on, you don't?! National Frog Month, obviously. I acknowledge that you might already have some pretty intense plans of your own vamped up to help you and your acquaintances indulge in the Frog Month 2009 holiday extravaganza. But in case you are stumped for ideas, I stumbled across a pretty compelling one.

It is called Frogs: A Chorus of Colors. What it consists of is a live exhibit of a few select species of frogs on display for your educational satisfaction and viewing pleasure at the Museum of Science Boston, Mass. The frogs will be on display through Monday, May 25th, 2009. They will then relocate to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City on May 30, 2009 where they will live until January 3, 2010.

The Frogs: A Chorus of Colors science museum exhibit has a few main objectives:

*To celebrate the collaborative diversity and beauty of what is claimed to be the most abundant amphibian on Earth.

*To educate visitors on various aspects of frogs including, but not limited to, the relatively lesser known contributions these Amphibians make toward helping our environment as well as aiding the agricultural and pharmaceutical industries.

*To allow people to experience a bit of what it would be like in a heavily frog populated habitat. Museum goers can listen to frog calls live and in action, they can witness frogs climbing, swimming and gliding on video displays and even have the opportunity to virtually dissect a frog.

Frogs are quite alluring creatures, both visually and conceptually. What better way to celebrate Frog Month National Holiday 2009 than by visiting a live frog exhibit?!

The Boston Museum of Science is located at 1 Science Park, Boston, MA 02114. There is a parking garage for visitors but they do charge a fee which varies depending on your length of stay. Also note that if the lot becomes full, which apparently happens on occasion during weekends and/or vacation periods, the nearby Cambridge Side Galleria Mall and TD Bank North Garden offer spaces as well. To get to the Boston Museum of Science by "T", take the MBTA Green Line E-Train to the Science Park stop.

For more information on the Museum including hours of operation, ticket prices, accessibility for disabled persons, etc. go to www.mos.org. You can also call 617-723-2500 (For TTY call 617-589-0417) or send an email to information@mos.org.

I have a puppet frog. My daughter loves it when I talk to her with it on my hand. Nice recognition of an important amphibian.

I've always loved frogs. As a kid, my mother hated it because I loved catching them and watching them grow. We always had frogs around.
