National Gospel & Harvest Celebration at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

October 5 - November 3

Lynn Harris
Each fall, Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, holds its National Gospel and Harvest Celebration. As in Dollywood fashion, this year's festival opened on October 5 with great shows and craft demonstrations, and the festival will continue through November 3. Listed as one of the top fall festivals in the South, this four-week festival will be filled with great Southern gospel music, unique craftsmen and wonderful food. There will be 250 free concerts performed by more than 30 of the most popular gospel groups. During the festival, you can also watch professional craftsmen demonstrate their talents in creating their crafts throughout the park and, of course, enjoy all the rides and attractions for which Dollywood is famous.

Performing some of your favorite gospel music will be the McKameys, Gold City, Brian Free & Assurance, the Crabb family and many more. These groups will lift your spirits and will fill the air with beautiful gospel music. You can get a full schedule of the performances from Dollywood's website so you can plan what day or days you want to attend.

After listening to the wonderful music, you can join Rusty's Trailblazing Chuckwagon and learn all about campfire cooking and watch Dutch oven cooking demonstrations. Rusty's Trailblazing Chuckwagon is an actual chuckwagon on wheels. While the demonstrations are being held you will hear the cooks tell some great stories and then listen to some old-time music.

After enjoying the gospel music and getting some campfire cooking lessons, you can walk through the park and watch the professional crafters demonstrate their creative talents. Some of the unique crafts you can see being demonstrated are loom weaving, wool rug hooking, Windsor chair making, woodworking, apple butter making, pottery, jewelry and much more. These artisans will share their talents to the hundreds of visitors that will visit the park during the festival. These demonstrations will be held outside around the park. You can also purchase any of the crafts you see being demonstrated.

While in Dollywood for the festival, make sure you enjoy some of the other performances in the park along with the rides. You will want to dine in the restaurants located throughout the park as they serve up some of the season's favorite foods. The food in Dollywood is some of the best you have ever tasted.

When visiting Dollywood, make sure you plan for a day-long stay. There is so much to see and do, it will take every bit of a whole day to enjoy. The weather may be a little cool as Dollywood is located in the mountains of east Tennessee, so plan to wear appropriate clothing. With all the walking you will do, you might be shedding off some heavier clothes by mid-afternoon.
