I am so grateful for the freedom that we have in our country. I have nothing but utmost respect for those who sacrificed their lives on behalf of our beloved nation.
And in contemporary times we still enjoy freedom because of men and women who have served, sacrificed and continue to do so. From the bottom of my heart I say, thank you.
To this end, homage is paid to our heroes and sheroes at the National Military Heritage Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The purpose of this museum is clearly summed up on its brochure. It is, "Preserving the historical heritage of the United States Armed Forces and those who served at home!".
At this museum visitors will see displays that go back to the Civil War and the role that the military played at that time and beyond. Additionally visitors can get a close-up view of the variety of vehicles they utilized in times of battle.
Have you ever wondered what type of ammunition they used? You'll find your answers here for that too.
While many soldiers were fighting in the field, many military personnel worked behind the scenes making munitions, supplies and aircraft for the troops. Military trains were also utilized from this area.
There are many interactive exhibits such as a Huey gunship helicopter that will give museum guests a better appreciation of what is involved in military life.
A trip here would not be complete without a visit to the store on the premises. Here guests will be able to purchase hats, flags, postcards, decals and other military and miscellaneous items.
If you enjoy military museums this one should prove to be rather interesting. The museum is located at 701 Messanie Street in St. Joseph, MO 64501. They are open Monday through Friday from 9-4 and Saturday from 9-12. Admission price for adults is $3.00 per person while school-aged children are free. Their phone number is 816-233-4321 and website for more information is http://nationalmilitaryheritagemuseum.com
They have a variety of events throughout the year and accommodate tour groups. It also serves as a place for military reunions. This would be a great attraction to visit during Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
May we never forget that freedom comes with a price. I humbly salute all our military men and women and honor them with the honor they are so due.
