National Mosque of Malaysia

We are moving on to another part of Kuala Lumpur today. The other day in a recent article, I showed you some places in the Merdeka Square area. Today, I will inform you about the angled roof designed National Mosque of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur (KL) a.k.a. Masjid Negara. To arrive to the area, one can go just beyond the Merdeka Square, moving outwards of KL. The National Mosque is located near the British Council building too which is a short walk away. Juxtaposed to the National Mosque is the Islamic Center of Kuala Lumpur which is a treat to visit on its own. Before proceeding into the National Mosque, one has to be appropriately attired. Shawls & long robes are prepared for the girls, ladies, & women while the man may want to wear long pants for the occasion. There are many water pools in the area, designed to help dissipate the intense heat of the Malaysian tropical climate. It's a cooling area to sit. The National Mosque is still used today especially for Friday prayer congregations. On other days, the National Mosque is open to the public including tourists for visitations. The interior of the Masjid Negara's main prayer hall captures the natural light flowing through the angled roof structure.

The dome openings are finished with glazed glass that surrounds the circular form of the space above, creating an encapsulating aura of lightness for the people in it. It is as far as a visitor can go into the mosque. Pictures & videos are allowed to be taken so don't miss the opportunity. It's a good place to relax & unwind on a cool day, contemplating on one's well being, safely tucked away in a pocket of surrounding greenery & simple play of geometry.
