National Night Out and Pied Piper - the Rest of the Story

The Junction City, Kansas Police Department's Community Involvement Unit will sponsor the National Night Out Against Crime on Friday, August 22nd starting at 4:00 pm in Heritage Park. National Night Out is celebrating 25 years of communities fighting back against crime. The National Night Out is a good-bye party for crime in the community. It is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
This year's National Night Out events will include food, games, demonstrations and information about safety and crime and drug prevention from 4:00 - 7:30 pm. At 5:00 and 6:30 pm the JCPD will perform a tazer gun demonstration. A canine demonstration is planned for 6:00 pm, and citizens can enjoy free burgers, hot dogs and trimmings from 5:30 until supplies are gone. The community is invited to end the days fun with an outdoor viewing in the park of the movie Spider-man 3 to be shown at approx. 9:00 pm with free popcorn. Beverages will be available for purchase.
The Junction City Arts Council presents a musical melodrama for the whole family.
The Pied Piper - The Rest of the Story will be presented by The Carter Hall Performers from Lawrence, Kansas under the direction of Larry Carter, the playwright, composer, narrator and villain for this melodrama. In keeping with the vaudeville tradition the show will begin with a short pre-show concert where each actor will perform a short piece. One may sing a song or recite a poem and another may play the violin or guitar. After the pre-show the main performance of The Pied Piper - The Rest of the Story will begin. The performance will take place at the Junction City Municipal Building on Jefferson Street at 7:00 pm on Saturday, August 23rd. Tickets of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children will be available at the door or may be purchased in advance at the JCAC, 107 W. 7th St., Junction City, Kansas.
