National Poetry Month: Mundane Object Poem

Eric Pudalov
My jacket is deep brown, torn to shreds
I lie buried in his pocket daily

My own pockets are filled
With his multicolored plastic tags

I have been acquainted with George Washington
I have chatted with Andrew Jackson
And have seen Abe Lincoln in passing

I've possessed some lurid photos
Of steamy one-night stands
And sexual fantasies
Beyond what you may comprehend

On occasion, I've been stolen
Passed through filthy fingers
But always

I feel
Needed.
