National Popcorn Day

Bernadette
We never knew that there was a special day to celebrate popcorn. It is hard to believe that this tasty and good for you snack has it's own national holiday! However, while online one day, we saw that there is a National Popcorn Day.

National Popcorn Day is the ideal time to keep to your New Year's Resolution to eat better and healthier foods.

Popcorn can be an absolutely nutritious and low calorie snack, if you remember not to add lots of butter or other high calorie toppings.

We decided to find out more details about the celebration of National Popcorn Day so we proceeded with an online search. Further online searching brought us to this website: www.popcorn.org

How National Popcorn Day started is unknown, but it is a good reason to eat some popcorn.

On this website it was discovered that the time to celebrate National Popcorn Day is the end of January. The precise date to celebrate National Popcorn Day is uncertain. However, several online sources say that National Popcorn Day is January 19.

On the other hand, additional online sources say that National Popcorn Day is Super Bowl Sunday. Celebrating National Popcorn Day on Super Bowl Sunday seems logical because lots of viewers watch the game and eat popcorn, a delicious and popular snack.

Unbuttered popcorn has relatively few calories per serving size. A one-cup serving has between 31 and 55 calories. Air-popped popcorn has fewer calories per serving, while popcorn popped in oil has more calories per serving.

According to the popcorn website each kernel of popcorn must contain 13.5 to 14 percent of moisture in order to pop correctly.

As the kernels warm up, the moisture inside turns into steam and the kernels will soon pop into the familiar shape we know as popcorn.

If you like sending ecards, simply search online for free National Popcorn Day ecards. You are sure to find at least one ecard to send as a tasty greeting.

Any reason to eat popcorn is welcomed in our house. We will celebrate National Popcorn Day on January 19 and Super Bowl Sunday. My husband has graciously offered to pop some popcorn for us on both days. He prefers to pop the corn using the side burner of our outdoor gas grill. Our favorite way to eat popcorn is by adding just a bit of coarse sea salt to the hot popcorn. It tastes yummy!

Happy National Popcorn Day!
