The NSTA's mission is "...to promote excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all." This site is accessible by members and non-members looking for science teaching related materials. Links leading to teacher resources, professional development opportunities, and conferences are clearly listed on the homepage. Professional and trade book reviews are available along with lesson plan ideas and supplies are sold at the science store. The NSTA's site also gives science, education, and legislative updates leaving readers with a well rounded and broad overview of science related topics. As a member, you receive a newspaper, a journal of your choice, and emails with updates. Membership discounts are offered to full-time students, new teachers, and retired teachers. Members may also pay additional money to receive more than one of the professional journals.

Reflections: I joined the National Science Teachers Association a few years ago and think the publications and website are highly informative. Selecting the clearly displayed links and entering searches has led me to articles and lesson plans written by NSTA affiliates and other reputable sources. I can easily navigate the website and have successfully incorporated ideas and research into science units. It is also a valuable resource to consult when thinking about differentiation because the materials are appropriate for a range of academic abilities. I have a scrapbook titled 'Lesson Plan Starters' and many of the articles, suggestions, and resources are from this website and its publications. Even in my short period of time teaching, I observed excited children exploring during hands-on science activities. Science is a great motivator. This wonderful site illustrates ample opportunities to integrate science and motivates me to incorporate science topics into my lessons more often.

Check it out!
