eterans. Offensively, the Gators have their star quarterback, Tim Tebow coming back for his senior year but will be looking to have running backs Jeffery Demps and Chris Rainey who are returning step-up to take his place. So far today, Meyer, has continued his trend of signing explosive, fast, defensive and offensive players.
Highlights have included the signing of the Nr. 2 overall outside linebacker prospect, Jelani Jenkins of Wheaton, Maryland, Safety Josh Evans of Irvington, N.J., Receiver Andre Debose of Sanford, Fl, and DT Gary Brown of Quincy, Florida. Even if the Gators don't sign one more player for next season, they will have another Top-Ten rated recruiting class heading into the 2009-10 season for defending their BCS national title! The player rankings below are from Rivals.com.
National Signing Day 2009 - Five Star Prospects - Florida Gators
# 1 National Signing Day 2009 DT Gary Brown - Quincy, FL
Gary Brown comes in to the Gators with an NFL body (6-3, 275), but can stand to polish his game some while he learns from the talented upperclassmen at Florida this coming season. Clocked at a 4.67/40 despite his bulk, look for Brown to really make an impact after a year of under-study and weight training in the Gator strength and conditioning program.
# 2 National Signing Day 2009 - WR Andre Debose - Sanford, FL
Andrew Debose is the type of player Urban Meyer likes, sub 4.5 speed (4.43/ro), able to play multiple offensive positions (wideout, quarterback, receiver), great hands and leaping ability. Look for his speed to faster once he's doing college level strength training and for him to bulk up a bit (6-0, 180lbs now).
# 3 National Signing Day 2009 - LB Jelani Jenkins - Olney, MD
Jelani Jenkins comes in with a 4.45/40 time and has demonstrated exceptional range in High School. Fairly lean for college at 6-2, 220, but demonstrates and exceptional striking ability at this stage of his career.
National Signing Day 2009 - Four Star Prospects - Florida Gators
# 1 National Signing Day 2009 - LB Jon Bostic - Wellington, FL
Jon Bostic brings decent size at:6-1, 218 with being clocked at a 4.59/40. Another great linebacker prospect to come in with Jenkins to learn the Gator defense while he bulks up and gets a bit faster!
# 2 National Signing Day 2009 - DB Dee Finley - New Berlin, NY
At 6-1, and 193 lbs, Dee Finley brings some explosive speed. He's been clocked at 4.4 in the 40.
# 3 National Signing Day 2009 - OL Xavier Nixon - Fayetteville, NC
Xavier Nixon comes to the Gatos with an NFL frame at 6-6, 263 lbs! His 40 time hasn't been officially clocked for rivals.com and ESPN, but look for him to be a player by his sophomore year for the Gators line!
# 4 National Signing Day 2009 - OL Nick Alajajian - Naples, FL
Another great lineman prospect, Alajajian comes in with a little more bulk than Nixon at 6-4, 280lbs. His 40 time has also not been clocked yet.
# 5 National Signing Day 2009 - ATH Josh Evans - Irvington, NJ
Josh Evans is recruited as an all-around athlete with many believing he will end up at receiver in college. At 6-2, 185lbs with a 4.43/40 he played quarterback the majority of his final high school football season.
# 6 National Signing Day 2009 - RB Mike Gillislee - Deland, FL
Mike Gillislee could have been recruited as an all-around athlete for next season just as easy as running back. At 6-1, 205 with a 4.4/40 he could be a candidate to red shirt a season to bulk up for the grind of college football, but we'll have to wait and see.
# 7 National Signing Day 2009 - OL Jonotthan Harrison - Groveland, FL
The third lineman prospect for this year's class with NFL size, Jonotthan Harrison is a hoss! At 6-4, 290lbs and a 5.1/40, he has the potential to be an impact player in his first year!
# 8 National Signing Day 2009 - DT Edwin Herbert - San Francisco, CA
Edwin Herbert brings some size at 6-3, 295lbs with a 4.81/40. Look for him to learn from the experienced players next season before making an impact his sophomore year!
# 9 National Signing Day 2009 - QB Jordan Reed - New London CT
Who better to learn from than Tim Tebow in his senior year! Don't look for Reed to play much next year, but similar in size to Tebow at 6-3, 235lbs with a 4.5/40 he will likely be an impact player in the future!
