Native Treasures

Lisa R. Strong
In the area where I call home;
Famous for antiques;
I found three more Native American dolls;
Beautifully clothed;
In traditional ceremonial dress;
White and light grey leather;
Real tan buckskin;
Tiny colorful beads;
Carefully sewn into place;
In artful patterns;
Each doll carries;
A little baby on their back;
Just like my "Halona" doll;
They were born on the reservation;
Made by the Cherokees;
The tribe of my ancestry;
That makes me proud;
But also sad in knowing;
That my father's people;
May have suffered tremendously;
At the hands of my mother's;
Yet without both of them;
I would not be;
The dolls are added;
To my growing collection;
And they will remind me;
To be proud of what I am;
And they will be passed on;
In generations to come
