Beauty treatments at your local spa can really eat into your paycheck, as can the many lotions, creams and other beauty products that women buy every day. Instead of heading to the local shops when you run out of something, look no further than your own kitchen.
You probably already have the ingredients necessary to create a dozen beauty products right now in your home. By using natural products, you avoid the harshness of chemicals and since you make them yourself, you know they are perfectly fresh and exactly what went into them.
Let's start with hair. There are plenty of high-priced shampoos to make your hair shinier or give it more volume but did you know that you can use a couple cheap fruits and other ingredients to achieve the same results? Rinsing your hair with diluted vinegar the next time you wash it will make it shiny by removing soapy residue and build-up from commercial products.
To make your own natural, fresh-scented hair spray, try chopping a lemon up and boiling it in 2 cups of water until the mixture is reduced by half. Strain out the lemon pieces and store in a spray bottle in the fridge. This will keep for up to a week and works just as well as most suffocating hair sprays on the market.
For natural beauty products such as lotions and facial masks, you can look to regular cooking ingredients. Parsley or mint tea both work as acne treatment, splash on your face several times a day for antiseptic care. Lemon juice diluted in water is also a natural antiseptic to be dabbed on zits and infections.
Facial masks are one of the most common beauty products that can be replaced with a couple of kitchen ingredients. For toning, try spreading egg white over your face and let it dry for 15 minutes. Remove with water. A cleansing facial mask is easy to make, just mix some honey with grated apple and spread on the skin for ten minutes. The two ingredients combined combat pimples and blackheads.
Another natural beauty recipe for skin is a mixture of avocado and honey. Mash the avocado and heat slightly in the microwave or over a double boiler. Add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix well before massaging into the skin. This is best for dry skin.
If you have oily skin, why not try this beauty remedy? Mix half a cucumber, pureed, with a tablespoon or two of natural yogurt for a good astringent mask. You could also massage some heated honey into the skin for a natural, non-oily moisturizer.
Beauty isn't just about creams and lotions, you have to create a good surface first, so try scrubbing your skin with a dampened handful of oatmeal to remove oil, impurities and slough off dead skin cells. For stubborn dead skin, a little salt can be added to the scrub. Splash with a vinegar rinse afterwards to tighten the skin.
With a little research, there is no need to spend a large chunk of your paycheck on beauty products. Everything you need to make your own natural beauty products can be found at the local farmer's market and in the supermarket!
