Natural Colic Remedies for Babies

Are you a parent, especially a mother who has a baby who is suffering from colic? Doctors will advise new parents colic is a natural part of life and there isn't anything they can give to your child. They will recommend different home remedies to treat colic and many ailments of childhood. These natural remedies for various ailments have been passed down from generation to generation.

The natural remedies are not just for the new parent but any parent. Doctors are not the only ones to pass down natural remedies from patient to patient. Parents are the main reason for the natural remedies to be an existence today. Before treating a child with colic, you must first understand the definition and the symptoms.

Colic is the result of an infant crying with no apparent reason. There is no known treatment for this mysterious illness. When this illness does occur with infants? It usually begins after birth and can last up to three or even four months. Colic doesn't just affect the child, but the parents as well. Does colic affect the parents? Anxiety and stress become apparent with parents who have a child or children with colic.

Children with colic are uncomfortable but don't seem to be in any pain. The excessive crying isn't a necessary link to colic, but could a link to many other ailments of children. Those ailments may include, hunger, sleepiness, temperature, or even in pain. The crying can last up to a few days. As a parent myself, I am lucky to have a child who hasn't suffered from colic.

Is there treatment for colic? No. Do not fret. There are natural treatments that are sworn by many people. But the key to treating colic is to remember that every child is different and responds differently to different things. No child is a like and responds to medical treatment like other children.

Herbal tea isn't a wide known treatment for colic or other ailments. Doctors say no more than four ounces on a daily basis won't hurt an infant. The key to this treatment is to make sure it is warm but not too hot. You wouldn't want to burn your child.

A massage does wonders for many various ailments. A gentle massage may be what you and your child need to ease the uncontrollable bouts of colic. It may not work the first time or two. But don't give up; the massage may work over time. Just keep trying.

Most children enjoy music and sound. The sound usually in most cases soothes the child to sleep. If the child does not fall asleep to the sound of music, they may just lie there quietly and enjoy the sounds. The sounds and music should be kid friendly.

A simple technique of burping your child after every feeding may reduce the symptoms of colic. But this technique is not a guaranteed "cure" for colic. Burping reduces the symptoms of gas. Many children suffer from gas related illnesses and burping can help relieve those symptoms.

Aromatherapy has helped treat many ailments. There are many products on the market with aromatherapy treatments. Johnson and Johnson have created several products such baby lotion and babies wash with aromatherapy. These products help tense parents to relax and help soothe children from the crankiness of colic.

Are these the only natural ailments for children with colic? The answer is no. There are many more to explore. There are two over the counter medicines that seem to help some or all babies with colic. Gripe water and colic drops are medication available any department stores and do not need any prescription to purchase them.

These six natural cures help some babies but not all babies tend to gain relieve from all of these treatments. Before proceeding through these natural treatments consult your doctor first. Seek his/her advise before giving any of these remedies a try.

Not all remedies are the same and do not treat all colic cases. As a parent, it is best to have patience during these trying times. Just remember to have patience and that all babies will come through the colic in time.
