You don't have to go to the salon and pay a fortune for a pedicure, you can make your own at-home spa treatment from ordinary household items. The best part is that it's all natural with no chemicals to make the dry skin even worse.
Most people tend to overlook their feet until the dryness has gotten to the point of being cracked and painful. If this sounds like you, here are a few things you can do to ease the dry skin and get your feet into sandal condition.
1. Try to soften the skin by soaking in warm water for about 20 minutes. When skin is nice and soft use a buffer to slough away any loose skin. While your skin is still damp massage with almond oil to moisturize. Slip feet into a plastic bag and put on socks to hold the heat and moisture inside. (Leave on all night for maximum results.)
2. You can make an exfoliating scrub using coarse sugar granules and enough olive oil to make a paste. Simply apply to feet and scrub with a loofah or buffer until the sugar granules melt. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Massage with more olive oil and leave on to soak into skin. If you don't have any olive oil you can even use ordinary vegetable oil. (I'm sure everyone has this around for cooking.)
3. Whole milk can be great for your skin. The fat and lactic acid will definately do your body good. Simply warm it up in the microwave until it is a comfortable temperature then soak feet for 20 minutes. Dry feet and apply a thick moisturizer, massaging thoroughly. Sleep with nice warm socks and admire how soft and silky your feet are when you wake up in the morning.
4. This may feel a little bit "icky" but it really works. Mash a couple ripe banans and spread them on your feet. Let feet sit for about 15 minutes and rinse them well. Apply some petroleum jelly and wear some nice warm socks to bed to help seal in the moisture.
5. Ideally if you take care of your feet daily, you shouldn't need to use any of these remedies for extreme dry feet. For best daily results always apply an unscented moisturizer after your shower. The smelly ones have alcohol that only tends to dry skin even further. Be sure to keep feet clean and dry, if your socks get sweaty, change them as soon as possible.
Sometimes dry, cracked feet can be a sign of athlete's foot. If your feet are dry, red or itchy be sure to see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and any needed medication. Those over-the-counter sprays don't really do much except sooth the itch, they don't actually cure the problem. Only a prescription from the doctor can really provide a cure.
