A huge buying point for a natural gas car is that natural gas is about half as cheap as regular gasoline. When gasoline goes up and keeps going up, this could save you tons. Another good thing about a natural gas car is that it is a cleaner burning fuel. This is great now because this is a time that we need to help keep fossil fuels from building up in our atmosphere and now that being "green" is in, you get to look good doing it also. If you would purchase a natural gas car right now, the federal government will give you a tax break for buying a clean burning car. Saving money is never a bad thing.
As always, you can't have your good without your bad. Unfortunately, some models of natural gas cars are more expensive. Even though you get a tax break for the car, you still might not save too much money depending on which model you go with. The worst part of wanting to own a natural gas car is the fact that natural gas stations are limited in numbers and in areas. With only having an estimated 700 to 800 gas stations in the Untied States, there isn't many gas stations you could just pull up to and fill up. On top of only having a limited amount of gas stations, over 100 of them are in New York. Gas tanks in these cars are normally larger than in a regular car. In some models, half of your trunk is taken up in order to fit the tank in the car. When you do fill up, the pumps are a lot different to use than regular gas pumps. There is a special fitting on the tanks of the car that take getting use to that latches when you fill up. The gas stations also bill you monthly in the mail instead of paying up front because the pumps read a fuel card that is scanned before you pump.
A natural gas car does have some good things about them that make them unique to the few people that have them. We get to pay cheaper gas most of the time and we are on the cutting edge of fuel. New cars and new fuels are being thought up, tested, and then made every year. One day the natural gas car might rule the road but then again, we never can tell with the way that technology goes. With scientists and engineers trying to reduce emissions and move to a better source of fuel for our nation, tomorrow could always have a surprise.
