Carol's Daughter Olive Oil Infusion is a popular product. In fact, I had to wait a month before I could purchase my first kit because it sells out quickly. With a 4.7- out of 5-star rating, I was eager to try this "softening and detangling" treatment out. Here are my results and some tips on how to use the product not mentioned on the box.
What Made Me Try CD's Olive Oil Infusion
After being natural for two years, I decided to stop cutting my hair down to a half-inch and just let it grow. Part of the reason why I always cut my hair when it began to grow was because the shrinkage made my thick hair difficult to detangle after washing. Neither hot oil treatments nor deep conditioners helped to detangle my coiled tresses. When I found out Carol's Daughter created a kit that was supposed to soften and detangle hair, I figured I'd give it shot.
Carol's Daughter Olive Oil Infusion
The kit is sold as a softening and detangling at-home hair treatment that costs $25.00 at Carol's Daughter, Sephora and Amazon. It contains the KHORET AMEN hair smoothie conditioner, KHORET AMEN hair oil, a plastic applicator tip and one plastic cap. The olive oil part comes from the KHORET AMEN hair oil which consists of 97 percent olive oil.
This is meant to be used as a pre-shampoo treatment on dry hair. Instructions as per the box:
- Part hair in four sections.
- Apply the hair oil directly to the scalp of each section and massage it in.
- Apply the hair smoothie to each section and comb through hair using fingers only.
- Cover head with plastic cap and leave in for 30 minutes. For deeper conditioning you can sit under a hooded dryer.
- Remove cap and rinse hair with warm water until water runs clear. Then wash hair as normal.
My Results
When I first used Carol's Daughter Olive Oil Infusion I followed the instructions on the box. The hair oil and smoothie have a very strong scent from the patchouli oil in both products. I am not a huge fan of this essential oil because of the smell but I could tolerate it for about 30 to 45 minutes. When I shampooed and conditioned my hair the smell of the KHORET AMEN products was gone. My hair was noticeably softer and easier to comb. However, I still was not completely sold.
I decided to use the Olive Oil Infusion as a mid-week conditioner wash for my hair. After rinsing the product out, my comb slipped through my hair fairly easily. To my surprise the smell of the products was not very potent after rinsing. Styling my hair, once dried, was quite easy and I did not need as much hair dressing as usual.
Tricks That Work for My Hair
Since I don't like the smell of patchouli oil I diluted the hair oil by mixing one-fifth of the KHORET AMEN oil with four-fifths of extra virgin olive oil. This also helps to stretch out the hair oil a little longer. Since my hair has low porosity and is very thick, I apply the hair smoothie using the shingle method. Doing this resulted in easy detangling and fewer knots at the ends. When I use the treatment as a mid-week conditioning wash, I leave it on for 45 minutes.
I am very happy with the results I achieved with Carol's Daughter Olive Oil Infusion. It actually did what it said, which was make my hair softer and made it easy to detangle. One perk for me is with each use I see fewer knots at the my ends which mean less breakage during detangling and less cutting I have to do since knots have to be cut out.
