Natural Herbal Douches Are Safe, Effective and Do Not Disturb Vaginal PH

Sarah Qualls
Do you love to douche but you've heard that they disrupt the natural pH of your body? Most prepared douches are chemical-based and can destroy the natural pH of the vagina. Herbal douches offer a delicate alternative to these disruptive mass produces douches.

These herbal douches are for cosmetic purposes only and not intended to take the place of appropriate medical treatment. On mixture below is for relief of vaginitis while the other one simply provides the cleansing and refreshing qualities of the douches we all knew and loved before they became taboo.

If you have an allergy to any of the plants below, perform this simple patch test first prior to using any of these recipes. Prepare 1 teaspoon of the herbal mixture and a small amount of boiling water. Next, apply the paste to cleaned skin on the inside of your elbow. Cover the area with a bandage for 24 hours. If you are concerned about an essential oil allergic reaction dilute one drop with one tablespoon of water, saturate a cotton ball and follow the steps above. If a rash or if redness appears, do not use the herb or essential oil.

Now that we are finished with all the technical stuff, let's get down to the fun part. Below are 2 quick and easy mixtures that work wonderfully and gently as douches.

Vaginitis Relief:

2 quarts of luke warm water

ΒΌ cup apple cider vinegar or 10 drops essential oil of tea tree

Combine ingredients in a 2 quart douche bag and proceed as usual. Please visit your doctor if symptoms persist.

Vaginitis relief douche is good for external itching and burning and cleans excess vaginal discharge. Use no more than 1 to 2 times per week. This mixture takes approximately 2 minutes to make and it leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean.

Freshening Douche:

2 quarts water

2 tablespoons peppermint, rosemary or yarrow

Boil water and remove from heat. Next add your herb of choice, cover and steep for 2 hours. Strain and pour into douche bag. Proceed as usual.

The freshening douche is a good general cleanser and does an excellent job refreshing. Use no more than once per week. This douche takes a little longer to prepare than the vaginitis relief douche but the results will speak for them selves.

I think these two douches are an excellent alternative for those of us who once love to douche but who have been unable to in the past few years for fear of disturbing the delicate pH of the vagina. So go ahead! Douche away!
