Natural and Herbal Remedies for Stomach Problems

There are a number of different ways to treat common stomach problems such as acid reflux, heartburn and indigestion. Some people prefer trying over-the-counter antacids such as Tums or Rolaids, while others prefer getting prescription medications from their doctors. A more natural approach to resolving stomach problems like these is to change how you eat and what you eat. There are also many natural alternative and herbal remedies which can be used.

One excellent herb to use for a variety of digestive disorders including heartburn and indigestion is called slippery elm. This herb helps reduce the inflammation which can be present in the digestive tract.

Minor and occasional indigestion issues are easily treatable with herbal teas. Peppermint is a very common herbal treatment which has been used for generations to treat stomach gas and bloating in colicky babies. Any type of mint usually works wonderfully for treating stomach problems including indigestion and acid reflux.

Chamomile is another wonderful herb which can be used in tea form to help relieve a wide variety of stomach ailments. This herbal remedy can help calm spasms in the stomach, and sue an upset stomach too. It also helps relieve intestinal cramps, and gas pains. Drinking it in tea form is particularly useful for soothing an inflamed esophagus, which people with acid reflux frequently have.

Another excellent herb to use for indigestion problems is fennel. This herb helps to stimulate the digestive tract, which allows your stomach to operate more effectively. It also works well as a natural way to neutralize excessive stomach acid.

Lemon balm is in other excellent commonly used herb for various different digestive related problems. This herb helps relieve the symptoms of indigestion, stomach cramps, gassing us, or just a general upset stomach.

Goldenseal is sometimes used as well for treating heartburn because it helps balance the digestive enzymes in your stomach. This herbal remedy is also effective for treating various digestive tract disorders such as ulcers and constipation.

These are just a few of the herbal and natural remedies which can be used effectively for treating various stomach problems. In digestion and acid reflux are particularly problematic for some people, but treating them with herbs instead of prescription medications is usually thought to be much more safe for the long term. Herbal remedies often have the added benefit of healing and repairing damages which may have been caused over the long term.

Herbal remedies are not some sort of magic pill of course, and they too can sometimes have side effects and interactions with other medications. So be sure to consult with a knowledgeable doctor, herbal specialist, or natural healthcare practitioner before starting any herbal healthcare regimen of your own.
