Natural Home Remedies for Acne

Pimples, zits and blackheads are all forms of acne. Contrary to popular belief, breakouts are not caused by the foods we eat.

According to the Mayo Clinic, an overproduction of sebum, irregular shedding of dead skin cells resulting in irritation of the skins hair follicles and buildup of bacteria are to blame.

In our vain attempt to rid our faces and bodies of these unsightly, and often painful breakouts, we usually rush to the store and purchase cleansers, soaps and scrubs. By scrubbing and using harsh soaps, we are actually making our acne worse.

For some, it seems that no matter what is used, the acne just won't clear up. But there is hope. There are several different remedies that you can use that are effective in the fight against acne without the chemicals that really aren't that great for us or our skin.

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea Tree Oil is a natural antibiotic and is effective in the treatment of acne. It contains a bacteria-fighting substance called Terpenes that kills or weakens the bacteria that causes acne.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera is another effective treatment. It not only contains an antibacterial, but also has an anti-inflammatory property to it. When taken internally, it also helps to clean and detox the digestive tract thus helping to clear the skin.

Some other things to try are:

Make a mixture of real tomato pulp, honey and rose water. Apply to your face and wash it off after about twenty minutes.

Apply cooked oatmeal to your face, leaving it on for 15-minutes and then wash it off.

Mix lemon juice and rose water in equal parts. Apply to the face using a cotton ball. Leave this on for 30-minutes and rinse your face. Repeat daily for twenty days.

Lavender is awesome! It calms you down, aids in getting rid of headaches and you can also use it to get rid of acne by simply applying lavender oil directly to the acne.

Make a tincture of Butternut, Burdock, Echinacea and Cleavers in equal parts. Apply to the affected area three times a day.

A handy-dandy trick: Rub a fresh garlic clove on acne. You may want to leave it directly on the acne for a few minutes. Do this several times a day.

Eating raw garlic seeds two or three times a day will help purify the blood and will help cleanse the system. This will also help prevent or reduce the instance of breakouts.

Allow an orange peel to dry and then pound it into a powder. Mix the powder with water to make a paste and apply it to the affected areas.

Mix yogurt and a little fine oatmeal together until you have a paste. Apply and allow to dry then wash it off.

These are only a few of the things that can be done to help get rid of acne. The whole idea is going as natural as possible, using things that you have at home or things that are inexpensive that don't have any harsh chemicals in them.

Following a strict regimen of good skin care, healty diet, exercise, resting well and being as stress-free as possible are also key to a good complexion.

Note: As with any natural remedy, you should consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are prone to allergies before trying these home remedies.
