Natural Home Remedy Treatments for Stress

Anonymous Brandy
Normal day to day life can contain several stress causing factors. Whether the stress is great or small, it can sometimes be hard to handle and have a larger impact on us than we realize.

To cope with your next bout of stress, try a few home remedy treatments. Many common kitchen ingredients can be used to relieve stress and reduce its negative effects. The following are excellent natural stress solutions.

The first handful of home remedies listed are foods known to aid in relieving stress.

Celery
Certain nutrients found in celery have a widely recognized sedative effect. Try snacking on some celery to help reduce your stress and calm your nerves.

Cherries
Cherries are a wonderful and tasty way to battle against stress. They produce a calming effect and help to soothe the nervous system.

Lettuce
Much like celery, this well known veggie also has a sedative effect. A natural sedative called, lacturcarium is found in the white juice that oozes from the lettuce when the stalk is broken. Try eating a big leafy salad the next time you are stressful.

Pasta
Eating both pasta and rice can cause the brain to increase the production of the chemical serotonin. Serotonin is known to cause a calming effect.

Whole wheat
Whole wheat and whole grain breads, cereals, pastas, and rice are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins are important in sustaining the nervous system. Keep your diet rich with whole wheat foods for reduced stress.

Oats
Oats are another stress reliever. They produce a calming effect. You can relax with a nice hot bowl of oatmeal or bake some yummy oatmeal cookies instead. Oats also help fight against high cholesterol too!

The next few home remedies are not to be consumed. The ingredients will still come from the kitchen cupboard, but these treats are for your bath, not for your taste buds.

Sesame Oil
Sesame oil can be used as a very effective stress reducing treatment. Warm a few ounces of the oil. The best and safest way to warm the oil without getting it too hot is to fill a small bottle with the oil, secure it tightly, and place the bottle into a bowl or container of hot water. This way, the oil will not be too hot and burn the skin. You only want it to be warm. After you have warmed the sesame oil, rub it all over your body from head to toe. After you're covered, take a nice, long, hot soak in the tub. Sunflower oil is also a nice stress reliever and can be used in this method as well.

Ginger and Baking Soda
Bathing in a hot ginger and baking soda bath can be an excellent way to relieve stress. As you fill your tub with hot water, add 1/3 cup of baking soda and 1/3 cup of ginger. Hop in and enjoy the soothing aroma as you soak.

Salts
If your stress is caused by or is causing tension in your body and muscles, this home remedy treatment can provide great relief. This recipe will create enough bath mix for 7 uses. Make sure you have a large enough jar to hold about 3 cups of salt. Mix 1 cup of Epsom salt, 2 cups of baking soda, and ½ cup of salt. Add ½ cup of your mixture to running bath water. This salt soak will soothe any achy muscles and help to relieve stress. Be sure to store the leftover mix in a sealed container away from any moisture.

If you are the type of individual that needs to transfer your stress to another object, try the next stress busting technique.

Baking soda stress ball
To make your own stress ball, choose a small, sturdy balloon of any color you like. Use a funnel to fill it with baking soda. You don't have to fill it too full, just enough to fit comfortably in your palm. Tie off the opening as securely and tightly as possibly. Now squeeze away!

Now that you have some suggestions, test them out. Find what works best for you.
