Natural Household Metal Surface Polishes and Cleaners

Looking for some simple and effective methods to clean and polish household surface without using harmful chemicals and polluting the environment? Here are some handy tips to get you started in the right direction.

Metal Surface Cleaners
For cleaning aluminum surfaces, use a soft rag and clean the affected area gently with a combination of cream of tartar and water.

For copper surfaces, soak a cotton cloth in a pot filled with boiling water and a combination of a tablespoon of salt along with a cup of vinegar. Apply the solution to the copper surface while it is still hot. Allow it to cool, and then proceed to wipe the surface clean. For dirtier surfaces, sprinkle some baking soda or lemon juice on a soft rag and then proceed to wipe clean. For cookware made of copper, sprinkle a lemon slice with some salt and then proceed to scrub the surface. Applying some ketchup on a soft rag and rubbing over the tarnished spots is another alternative.

For gold surfaces, proceed to clean by using any of the following ingredients: toothpaste, salt paste mixture, vinegar, or flour.

For stainless steel surfaces, use a rag that ahs been dampened with undiluted vinegar or olive oil and proceed to clean. For cookware made of stainless steel, combine four tablespoons of baking soda with one quart of water, and apply the solution on to a soft rag. Proceed to clean and then wipe the surface dry using a clean piece of cloth. For stainless steel sinks, pour some club soda on a rag, proceed to clean, and then wipe the sink dry using a clean cloth.

Metal Surface Polishes
For brass or bronze surfaces, polish with a soft rag soaked in lemon and baking-soda solution, or in a vinegar and salt solution.

For chrome surfaces, use and of the following ingredients to polish: baby oil, vinegar, or aluminum foil with the shiny side on the outside.

For silver surfaces, line a pan with aluminum foil and fill it with water. Add one teaspoon respectively of baking soda and salt. Bring the solution to a boil and then immerse silver in the pan. Polish afterwards with a soft rag.
