Natural Ice Vs Natural Light

Greg Seltz
Though most will probably disagree and reform to the more-popular, better tasting Bud Light, I have since compared and contrasted the similarities/differences between two other well-known beers. These beers can be found in nearly any corner market or liquor store, and are considerably less expensive than other beers. For example, the average price for a 30-pack of Natural Ice or Natural Light is $16.99; only four dollars more than a 12-pack of Bud Light.

Both Natural Light and Natural Ice are products of Anheuser-Busch. The "Natural" brand was initiated by the introduction of Natural Light in 1977 as a way of preserving outdoor heritage and natural resources. After Anheuser-Busch created Natural Ice in 1995, the "Keep it Natural" program has supported the protection of nearly 110,000 acres of wildlife habitats and natural landscapes along the east coast. In addition, The Conservation Fund and Anheuser-Busch have partnered on a national campaign to preserve over 1 million acres of the National Wildlife Refuge System as part of the "Natural" reputation.

Natural Light was the first reduced-calorie light beer created by Anhueser-Busch. It is known by its balanced flavor and satisfying refreshment. In 2008, Natural Light received a Bronze Medal in the World Beer Cup in the light lager category. It was also listed as the fifth largest selling beer in the United States by the Wall Street Journal. What makes Natural Light different from Natural Ice is the fact that it is lighter in calories, carbohydrates, and alcohol. Comparisons are below.

Natural Light: Calories 95, Carbs 3.2g, Alcohol 4.2%
Natural Ice: Calories 157, Carbs 8.9g, Alcohol 5.9%

Natural Ice is an American ice beer lager. The temperature of ice beer is lowered until ice crystals begin to form. However, since alcohol has a lower freezing point than water does, after the ice (water) is filtered off the alcohol concentration increases. The reason ice beers tend to have less flavor than other light beers is because much of the yeast cells/protein get filtered off with the ice.

I'll pass this on to my husband who drinks beer. Thanks!

Nice review, but I am a MGD girl all the way.

How about that. Many years ago, mostly in college, I loved to drink beer. After school I got married and eventually quit altogether. But I always loved the taste of a very cold one. Root beer is the only beer I drink nowadays. Good article. God bless.

So, I can buy beer and help natural areas at the same time? Such a deal!
