Natural Magical Tools for Witches and Other Secrets
Almost Anything Found in Nature is a Tool of Magic.
This article is designed to be a quick reference to understanding the inherent energies of the things of this earth. Notice the energy patterns of herbs trees and different stones. Example: A piece of green emerald has earth energies such as wealth, success, grounding, and stability. If you wanted to start your own business, then an emerald would make a great talisman for success. You could enhance this power by anointing this talisman with patchouli oil and calling forth the North Wind, and asking the Goddess Fortuna to bless your talisman. If you did this on a Wednesday night, facing North, in the middle of Winter you would be enhancing the spell even further; add a green candle and some cinnamon incense and... Well you get the idea.
Magic does not have to be all glory and casting circles. (I usually reserve this for Sabbats and such.) It can be simple as hugging a willow tree and asking it to take your pain, or as complicated as a full Sabbat ritual. If I give you one homework assignment it would be to spend one hour gathering things you find in nature, let them stick out, things that pull you in and catch your eye. Then look up all the energies associated with each object and really get to know them. Then think of how you could use these in a spell, and do this for all of them. Actually, a good daily meditation would be to go outside, and pick up the first natural object that catches you eye. Study it, meditate on it and learn to feel the energy it has.
This can also be a divination tool. Think about your object as your horoscope of the day. The energies of the object you select as the ruling forces of the day. If, for example, the first thing that catches your eye is a fallen willow branch, then it will be a healing day for you. This practice, however, does require some intuition. Sometimes the energy of the object is something you need, or just advice on what you may need to focus on for that day. I would also suggest keeping a journal of your objects and their energies; this will help you become more in touch with the energies you encounter, and help you increase memory retention. This is also a useful tool for learning more about the people in your life. Notice the things they surround themselves with. Are they mostly one color? Is there a theme? Do they surround themselves with natural objects such as, shells, stones, or plants? What kind are they? You can get in touch with, and better understand, the vibrations that make your friends and family more comfortable, or that they are allying themselves to.
Another way this will help in your studies is by making you more observant. One of the greatest tools of a witch or a shaman is the ability to notice things other people don't, how these things effect situations or people, and what to do about them. That's the secret mystery that surrounds these people. It's not always what you know that makes the difference, but what you notice. Try these ideas for one week and see if you don't understand the world a little better.
It is also possible to use natural items as actual tools. I once found a river rock that naturally had a large indentation in it that allowed me to use it as a mortar. I then made it my business to find a suitable rock to use as a pestle, and succeeded. Now, not only did I not have to buy these items, but I had natural ones made by the Gods themselves. Wands are another common tool that can be found in nature, just make sure you find one that has fallen naturally, and thank the tree for the gift. Natural items can also be representative such as a sea shell, to represent water and the sea. Use your newfound magical talents to find as many natural tools as you can, and before you know it, you will abound with magical treasure.
