Don't Leave Bags of Food Open
If you are having an ant problem, you have probably noticed that the ants are drawn to your kitchen. This is because there is probably bags of open food on the counter or in the cupboards. Make sure that you close all bags of food. The bags inside the cereal boxes should be rolled tight and potato chip bags should have a clip to keep them closed tight. Be sure to wipe the kitchen counters of all crumbs or food particles.
Draw Lines of Chalk Outside
If the ant problem is outdoors, then draw lines of chalk in the area that you do not want the ants to enter. A little known fact about chalk is that ants will not come anywhere near it. Let the kids go chalk crazy or feel free to go crazy with chalk yourself.
Kill the Queen Ant
In order to prevent the ants from producing even more, it is important to get rid of the queen ant. This ant, which is the largest of the colony, produces many babies each year. Usually, this ant will be in the nest so you will need to find it. Sometimes, you may see a queen ant wandering by herself.
Use Cornmeal or Cream of Wheat
Spread out some cornmeal or cream of wheat that has not yet been cooked. This food is not dangerous to humans or pets but it kills ants. The reason is because after the ants take a drink of water, the cornmeal or cream of wheat expands in their stomach. Keep in mind that this method of killing ants is best when used outdoors.
Use Scents to Get Rid of Ants
There are a few different scents that are known to repel ants. Putting them in or around your home can be a good way to get rid of ants. Some of the different scents that ants despise include vinegar, peppermint, cinnamon, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and bay leaves. Try to keep all of these scents out of the reach of children or animals because they may be harmful.
Find the Ant Nest and Rid of it
Probably the best way to naturally get rid of ants is to find their nest. This can be difficult but if you pay attention to where the ants are coming from, it shouldn't be too hard. Once you find it, the best way to get rid of the nest is to pour boiling water on the ants.
There are many alternatives to using an exterminator to get rid of ants. These are some of the natural ways that you can get rid of them. Keep in mind that purchasing ant traps will also help lessen the problem.

Post a CommentGood advice. I'd never heard the chalk thing. Right now Oklahoma is in the midst of an ant crisis. We're quarantined from shipping certain things out because of fire ants. They don't bother much inside, but stand outside for five minutes and they'll be all over you. And their bite is so painful. We finally found some stuff Wal-Mart is pushing, and it really works. Seems none of the safe methods work for fire ants.
