Tea is one of the most famous ways to ease nausea associated with everything from the flu to morning sickness. If you don't feel well, chances are there is a tea to cure you! Many grandmothers still use this remedy successfully to treat anyone who will allow it.
There is nothing wrong with a few sips of tea, but you may find that some of these remedies are not ideal for you and may actually make you sicker to your stomach, so proceed with caution and discard the ones that don't help. Everyone is different and you need to remember that not all remedies will work for you.
If you are having difficulties keeping anything, even liquids, down, you should consider chilling the tea before drinking it. Cold things are easier on an upset tummy, while lukewarm fluid can actually induce vomiting. If you are in a hurry, add a handful of ice cubes to the pitcher before you pour in the hot tea.
Peppermint tea is supposed to do wonders for your stomach. Some people find the smell of it nauseating, while others claim it really works. You might also try sucking on a mint candy.
Ginger or chamomile tea is also good and both can be found in any decent supermarket or health food store. Candied ginger also works and if you aren't opposed to sodas, many people have found relief sipping Ginger Ale. This herb naturally calms the stomach, while chamomile works more on the nerves.
Upset stomachs tend to do better with cold items, so you may wish to try sucking on ice or even trying a Popsicle in a plain flavor. Avoid milk or other dairy products since these can actually cause more nausea and are not usually recommended during the experience. Many a pregnant woman has found herself surviving on a daily diet of ice in her first couple of months.
A cold compress on your stomach may also help reduce the nausea. This really depends on the person, some actually prefer heat instead of cold, so this is basically up to you. A simple cloth or hand towel soaked in ice water can be enough to quell any icky sensation and allow you to rest more comfortably.
Nausea is never fun, but you don't need to make it worse with pills. Instead, try natural relief the next time you suffer from a stomach upset.
