Natural and Nude: Make Up Trends for 2010

Rebecca Furtado
Spring 2010 will usher in new looks that are natural fresh and new plays on old favorites. When the spring finally shows up think light and bright when it comes to showing off your eyes. This will be most true in the area of eye makeup; especially with some of the new shadow colors available. The bright reds and darker rich colors of winter are being replaced with light and happy colors that reflect the sun and spring foliage.

Smokey eyes have been big this past fall and winter. The dark and grey shades that brought mystery to your holiday eyes are not going to cut it for a lighter and brighter season. For the warmer weather try to achieve Smokey eyes with colors like reddish browns, metallic colors, blues and greens. Blues and greens are hot colors for the spring. The blues are not the pastels of the seventies, but rich and bright.

Plums and violets are one eye color that will transition into the new season. Look for eye color packaged in at least four colors to achieve you Smokey summer eyes. To get Smokey eyes use your lightest shadow on the lid are, the medium color in the crease of your eye and to dark color on the outer corner of your eye. The darker color gives your eyes over all depth. The fourth color which is usually the second lightest color is used to highlight your eyes overall and can be applied to the brow area or inner corner of your eyes

If you are playing up your eyes it is best to let your eyes shine and go with more understated lip color. Nude lips are in this spring and you can get the look of nude, but not naked lips by using a paralyzed lip shade that reflects smoke of the skin tone of your lips. If you cannot live without some artificial color try variations of soft pink or coral. You can get your lip color to stay longer if you brush on a little face powder when you finish. The powdery finish also helps you achieve a natural look.

Tinted moisturizers are good bets for girls who don't have too many flaws to cover. It is makeup that is actually good for your skin. Tinted moisturizer and little face powder and some blush in shades of pink or coral is all that the lighter look of spring makeup requires. There are lots of new cosmetics that that are actually good for your skin, like anti ageing lipsticks and blushes. Make sure that your skin does not have sensitivity to the alpha hydroxyl or the retinal many of these products use in their formulation before you use them. If you have sensitive skin it is best to stick to the tried and true hyper allergenic brands you have been using and simply go to buy updated colors.

Spring is a good time to update your skin care routine for more humid weather. You may want to add a toner and use as lighter moisturizer or eliminate a separate moisturizer if you are going with a tinted moisturizing product. You can eliminate lots of problems with caking on your face if you go with the lightest mineral makeup possible. If you have skin that can look wonderful with sheer powder eliminate your heavier winter mineral powder and go for a sheer formulation.
