Natural Pain Relief for Toothache

Jolynne M Hudnell
If you have ever had a toothache, you know the pain can range to excruciating depending on the cause. If you can't get in to the dentist right away, here are some ways to find natural pain relief for your toothache.

Herbalist Willow Sidhe has an article where she recommends home remedies such as hydrogen peroxide rinse, peppermint tea, clove oil and a vinegar with pepper combination. You can find her article "What Are Some Home Remedies for a Toothache?" on Livestrong. Remember, if you don't find a clove oil preparation specifically for oral use, please dilute it with 9 parts oil as clove oil and be destructive to nerve endings in the teeth and gums.

Not all home remedies work on everyone and it depends on the reason for your toothache to which natural pain relief would work best for you. There are other ingredients you may have right in your kitchen to help with toothache pain.

Garlic cloves work well due to antiseptic properties. Smash the clove then place on the affected area to kill germs and provide some relief from pain.

Pure vanilla extract works quite well as a natural pain relief for toothache. Use a few drops of the extract on a cotton ball and place over the affected area for several minutes. This will help numb the area. Oregano oil and mustard oil are also supposed to work well to help reduce the pain of a toothache. Use in the same manner as pure vanilla extract.

Chewing on guava leaves or dried peppermint leaves may have a numbing effect. Be sure to get it to the area where the pain is. Placing a cool slice of cucumber over the affected area can help ease pain from the coolness and soothing properties of cucumber.

There are many more home treatments for toothache pain. Of course some work better than others. When trying a home remedy of any type, be sure that the product is edible or safe for oral use. Never use anything in your mouth that is not safe if accidentally swallowed when considering natural pain relief for toothache.
