Do Not Do This
Do not try to medicate your cat's pain by yourself. Do not attempt to diagnose your cat's pain without proper medical training. Do not try administering pain medication meant for dogs, other animals, or humans. Do not use Tylenol as this can cause liver damage in cats.
The Veterinarian
Make an appointment with a veterinarian to diagnose the symptoms of your cat's pain. Once you know what the cause of your cat's pain is, you can then look for natural pain relievers with the help of your veterinarian. Ask your veterinarian about suggestions for natural pain relievers and recommendations for what they would not use to treat your pet.
Diet
Try improving your cat's diet; an increased amount of fat can increase mobility problems and stiffness. Reduce or eliminate high-carbohydrate processed food. Reduce intake of dry food because this also reduces liquids that are used to lubricate joints and maintain muscle. Reduce the amount of grains your cat has in their diet. Reduce the overall weight of your cat because excess weight can cause pain from pressure on bones and joints.
Supplements
Try fish oil and Vitamin E in small amounts; these are anti-inflammatory natural remedies. Make sure to use both in combination, as the use of fish oil will increase the need for the vitamin. Look for natural oils such as cod liver oil or salmon. Vitamin supplements can also help such as MSM or SAM-e. Try Glucosamine when dealing with chronic pain issues. Each of these are given in amounts of one tablespoon mixed with food daily.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the more well known homeopathic methods of natural pain relievers for cats. Use this method when other methods and medications seem to fail. Look for a veterinarian who understands about this topic and can guide you through this type of treatment.
